Car wash and the antenna

Anyone go through a car wash and forget to remove the antenna?

Didn't wash it yet but I fear forgetting to remove it or what might happen if I did.
Haven't tried removing it yet either. Does it just unscrew?
Do I need any tools/hex keys?

No tools required it just unscrews. I've been wondering myself if I really need to remove it. If it were a little shorter I might be more willing to try.

I usually hand wash it during the nicer months but I run it through a automatic wash when it gets above freezing just to keep as much salt off as possible.

Yea Chicago winters!

Took the rental in 2 or 3 car washes with the antenna and never had a problem with it. Didn't know that the antenna was removable.

I've taken mine through with the antenna on and no problems. Don't think you need to remove it.

Based on my experience in my garage with the antenna catching the bottom of the raised garage door and doing the 'booinnng', I fear taking it into a car wash.

For those who washed it, dont the rags or brush roller thing run along the top of the vehicle?

I know years back, most car washes asked people to remove their antennas.

Brush car washes are the worst thing for your car. You should use the touchless ones, they don't clean very well and some use harsh agents to wash the car. The antenna is the least part you should be worried about using the brush washes.

That's a hell of an endorsement!

Agreed that brush / cloth car washes are the worst thing for your paint.

you can remove the antenna since it's worthless anyway, it's only for AM/FM reception, w/out the antenna your range is just not that huge on AM/FM that's all. it doesn't affect the rest of the base where GPS is etc.

if you're really picky you can get a nylon screw that matches the threads and shorten it so it plugs the hole beautifully.
other options of course Cravenspeed shorty (super nice) antennas but not in production yet, the more requests they get the faster they'll make them for the GC.

here's an example of the Cravenspeed

Haha meant if you have to use an automatic wash go for the touchless. But they still suck, lol

Yeah I'm def not a fan of car washes but most nowadays are brushless from what I've seen. At this point, I might as well soap her up real quick and rinse her off myself. Should take more than 20 minutes.

Any recommendations for type of towels / cloths to dry her with.

- side note to myself: stop using 'her' as I'm getting myself excited.. lol
