Sentry key

So i got one of these...

I also have one of these uncut...

I don't feel like spending the 130 bucks for a new key remote combo. Neither of my keys are broken or lost yet. I want a spare just in case i need to replace a lost key, because you need two keys to program more without having to spend an arm and a leg at the dealer to reprogram more. So question is... can i use the original sentry key-I for 99-04 jeeps which fits in the ignition to program to my jeep to have as a backup spare in case i need to reprogram a newer sentry key-II key. Or has anyone tried this?

Go here and buy a rock key. $30 after shipping and programming/cutting cost me $20 at the dealership. And they only needed 1 key to program my 3rd one? All 3 work fine.

Thats my backup key. I have 2 standard keys for normal use.

You need the dark brown/tan key for the WK.

The other chrysler keys i have work with the wj but it proly wont work for the wk, so ill just get one of them rock keys.

Thanks kyle.

Re: Sentry key

The sentry key from a 99-04 is different than the ones for the 05 and up, the 99-04 keys are grey, Sentry 1 system. The 05 and up keys are tan, Sentry 2 system. They are not interchangable
