Navteq/Chrysler Update CD

Has anyone received a cd for upgrading their maps and or software for their nav system? I received one today and not sure if this is just to update the maps or is this to update the software. It does say to go to thre NAvteg website to purchase the unlock code for CD for $199. It come with two cd's. My question is, is one of the cd's for a software update and the other is if I wanna purchase the map update.

Did they send it to you apropos of nothing?

I still think $200 for a map update is friggin' wrong. We'll have to eat it if we want recent maps, but geez.

I'm pretty sure the map update for my tundra is $299.....the reason I still have 2007 maps.

It just showed up in the mail today. There is two cd's and it says it's a a map update and a software update for the navigatin system, what I don't know is, do I have to pay the $199 in order to update the software alone.

I doubt you have to pay to update software. Milous said there was a software update coming down for the RER to fix a few glitches, and I imagine that's it. You can always try to apply it and see what happens- if it asks you to put two $100 bills in the CD player, then stop. :p

usually the software update will install, but you have to pay to get the second cd with the map updates to work, b/c it will ask for an activation code.....

It's this kind of thing that turns me off to in-vehicle Nav and why I'm so glad the 430 in my new Ltd doesn't have Nav. When new maps are needed I just buy another Nuvi and sell the old one. Eh...I'm just a curmudgeon I guess,

The update I was referring to is v2.400 which will not be released until January.

^^^ This is correct. The activation code is emailed after payment of $199 (plus tax and shipping = ~$228).

I hate to bring this back to the top but I received the two disk update kit in the mail today from Navteq. You would think that a 2011 JGC with a build date of 11/10 would have all the up to date software and maps. Am I wrong on this or do I need to update?

I also received a disk update but I believe it was for the 730N. I used it to upgrade the software in my JK but didn't buy the updated maps. I didn't think to try it in my WK2 since I don't think it was due for a software update yet and because the GUIs are very different between the 430N and 730N.

I wish they actually bothered to ship these things with up to date maps. Here in STL they had a good chunk of a major interstate closed for about a year, but it reopened in late 2009. The map on my 730N still shows it as closed.

With updates running $200 a crack, I'm wondering how much collusion there is between Navteq and Chrysler on this one. With a Garmin or TomTom you'd get 4 updates a year for less than half that much.

I wonder if the 430N will be able to use the Garmin map updates. I bring this up because the 430N imports custom POIs so it would seem that it might be able to use the normal Garmin map updates, which are a lot cheaper especially the lifetime updates...yeah I know, wishful thinking, but it makes sense in my mind.
