My babys... condition.

So, Ive mentioned before that I got this for a great deal, it needed engine work and there are some tranny concerns. I have been dealing with chrysler training in the mornings then work afterwards all week and have had no extra time to tinker with it. I was able to pick my heads up from the machine shop on friday so I could work on assembly today. I started here:

Those were about 6:30 this morning. A couple jobs and some free time later I got it to here:

I have to change the oil, pull the trans pan and replace the filters, pull the coolant resivor and flush and clean it out (green coolant used by PO)... then cross my fingers and toes and start it up. Its a pretty big weight on my shoulders not knowing the condition of the engine and trans and spending money to fix whats there is stressing me out... my only other option I would have done is a mopar reman and that would have been just over 3k and I would still possibly need a trans. That may be what it gets anyway Ill hopefully know next week.

Thanks guys, Ill keep you posted... Hopefully tue-wed this week ill be able to get it started.

The PO drove it till the cylinder filled up with coolant so I *should* be able to start driving it if the motor is in decent shape. I have nightmares from a buddy like 8 years ago doing a head gasket on his escort, problem started with the wrong head bolts which bottomed out and didnt snug the head. That let the coolant and oil mix, once the fiasco was straightened out he drove it 3 houses down the block and a cam seized in a journal and it broke the cam gear off the cam. If this patch job doesnt work its just going to get a Mopar reman.

Not going to lie... the hood light is a coworkers whom works the other shift. He told us we could use it if we want to.

Its a nice lamp and I think was like 90 bucks off the mac truck like a year ago, but at that time I didnt have my cranberry box I just had that orange cart and didnt have the room to store it. They are VERY helpful!

perks of the job, just like getting to do all this in a heated shop on a hoist!

Re: My babys... condition.

I started it tonight, started right up (after I plugged in the crank sensor ha ha). Runs great, there is a bit of a clunk from the front diff (the upper bushing) which is like 20 bucks and about 1.5 hrs of my time. Drove it 24 miles this evening (mostly the drive home).

It seems like one of the pinions is singing on accel... going down the freeway and rolling into the throttle its VERY noticable! I need to nail down where its coming from then inspect from there. Realistically diff noises dont bother me, bearings are cheap, only expensive thing is time and thats free for me (although my sanity pays).

I installed my HID's this evening too... not as clean as I would have liked but I was pressed for time. Ill go back in and mount the ballasts better, route the relay harnesses better. They are 6000k 55w headlamps, 3000k 35w fog lamps... AMAZING, coming from a 92 protege to these, its like daylight!
