The Botton Line on the Saddle Circus

The bottom line is this.....not having the jeep is not the hardest part, trust me, that really really disappointing but its not as bad as the LACK OF INFORMATION ON OUR STATUS OR DELIVERY DATE. That is what is making this process so unbearable. Just give me a date....12/5 or 12/18 or 1/08 even....JUST GIVE US A DATE !!! Who's saying it can't be late march or april at this point. At a certain point I will have to make other arrangements. We have a right to know. How can the the dealer, 877 I AM JEEP and the direct 800 number to my rep all have no idea of scheduling on a order placed on 9/22. All these people know I am going on my 4th leased jeep and that I had to turn in my last overland on 10/8 because they wouldnt extend my lease until my new one arrived. So the wife and I continue juggling one car with the busy holiday season bearing down on us.

Hello...chrysler...the lights are on but is anybody home ? Hellooooooo ?

"sorry sir, your car is not scheduled at this time, please feel free to check back with us...is there anything else I can assist you with today ?" Totally pathetic. It really is.

I'm with you. Someone, somewhere, at the factory, has the information. They know the number of orders, the availability of parts, the production schedule and capability, and should be able to give everyone an estimate. They just don't care about you enough to punch a couple keys into a computer. Pathetic....

They have too many variables to give you a precise build date, but they do need to manage expectations better for custom orders if they are leaving you in the lurch. They might think they will have your vehicle built starting Monday. However, then more orders for a certain color or option group comes into the existing production loop cycle that they decide to wait until more like yours "build up" so they can do a more efficient batch run. There might also be a particular supplier interruption/delay for a component unique to vehicles like yours; suppliers they can't control in the short term.

Manufacturing vehicles is processed under a JIT (Just In Time) system and it's done it batches. The forum members who work on the line can confirm they may see many vehicles come through with the same options or the same colors based on the order runs and arrival of material to the plant and other daily adjustments to maximize plant and material efficiency. The batches are based on immediate orders, materials needed for those orders, availability of that material in the material pull loops, and economies of scale for batch runs among a multiple of other variables.

Assuredly it is not a Chrysler-specific issue in not being more informative about your order. Audi is poor, BMW is worse and GM is laughable in that regard in my experience; of vehicles ordered in the past, one arrived in 2wks while another was over 4mos all while knowing no procedural status. Remind yourself that while the wait is agonizing, you will get exactly what you want unlike me who got frustrated trying to find the specific color/option combination I wanted.

It's just an interior colour. And if you lease, you're only "renting" the vehical for what, three years?
I know it seems like a nice colour, but I don't think its a deal breaker... especially when you need a car cause your lease is up on your old ride, just pick Black and enjoy your ride.
Black seems really nice.
But here's me preachin'.... I'm waiting for 2012 cause "maybe" there will be an 8-speed box!

Unless something's changed, isn't the 2012 WK2 supposed to have a six-speed box, or if that falls through even retain the present 5-speed? The 8-speed reportedly won't show until the 2013 incarnation, but maybe some of our inner-sanctum members have more up-to-date info on this.
