Sub in Tailgate?

I have been reviewing many of the threads in this forum about subwoofer placement. Has anyone considered putting a sub in the tailgate? it seems like you could do a custom fiberglass enclosure behind the panel. Pioneer and Kenwood make some very shallow mount subs that would fit. Watcha think?

you'll need some stout lifts to hold it up.

then think of YOUR fiberglass every time you drop that hatch......unless you are zora duntov of fiberglass, it'll be busted up quickly.

or if you have the power tailgate - its warranty null and void.

just a few thoughts without really thinking about it...

YEP, just think, everytime you shut or slap that tail gate, that fiberglass is slowly overtime going to crack.

I personally wouldnt do it, especially if your going to put all that work into it

good points. thanks for the feedback. i guess i'll fork over the 600 bucks for a stealthbox! I have two amplified sas 10" bazooka tubes now but my wife hates 'em so I guess i'll have to sell them. For 600 dollars that JL better hit.

Whats wrong with a custom box?? You can get custom boxes made for less than $600

I'm with ya dawg!! I was thinking the same thing $600 boogs is alot for a box.....but I will evenually get one because I dont want to take up space with a box. I use and need the space in the back even more than before. It seems like the space in my WK is smaller than my old WJ.

I have a JL10W6v2 in just a square box I built to specs in my cargo area. I have it secured by a hook attached to one of the anchor things on the back of the rear seat. When I need to fold the seats down the box comes right off and I can move it wherever.

I'm really trying to preserve the cargo space cuz I'm constantly hauling crap around. Even unhooking the smaller and lighter bazooka is a pita

I kind of like the idea of the sub in the tailgate.I hate that box in the back of mine.I don't know a lot about WKs but in the WJ it looks doable with a low profile sub using the hatch as the enclosure. Might have to use a ring between the plastic panel and the tailgate as there is some space in between plus some Dynamat to eliminate rattles maybe even pop rivet a piece of sheet metal in there cause i forget where the open spaces are. I don't think a single sub would affect the struts at all if they're in good shape to begin with. I think I'm going to look at this when I get some time.
