44re tranny help...

My buddy and I just finished replacing the tranny (44re) on his 98 jeep grand cherokee 5.2. First ill let you know ive never done a tranny before... We got the old one out and the new one in. Before i got there today my buddy told me he may have stripped the threads on the oil cooler line that goes into the tranny.upon firing the jeep up...everything seemed ok,then i notice a puddle on the floor. Yep, the tranny is leaking at the tranny housing where the line connects...so im assuming the internal threads into the tranny housing need to be repaired. Next issue...While the jeep is running, there is a loud distinct noise coming from the underside between the tranny bellhousing and the engine itself...First guess would be cracked flex plate? Or hopefully, the torque converter to flex plate bolts are just loose? Will this "knock" result in the tranny fluid being too low? Lastly, the tranny cycles through all the gears smoothly until it is put into park. When its put into park theres a winding grinding noise as if the truck isnt fully in park then after a brief seccond or two it clunks into park? Maybe a fluid level issue as well? Maybe linkage issue? I need some input before i have to tear this sob apart again...any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreacited.

thanks guys,
jason

Make sure you Shift Link Cable is tight. Check your fluid. You never know.

just realized the date on this, but o well...
ok.. yes on the inspection cover being bent. no matter how gentle u r with it, when u are removeing it, it bends... stick a flat screw driver in between where it looks bent, and pry it away from the torque converter... check the bolts ont he torque converter. it will be bad if those come loose.

the linkage is adjustable. crawl under and manually put the trans in park and see if it still whines... make sure u have someone on the inside standing on the brake..
