HID / Projector Light questions.

So I don't know anything about the new headlamps, or assemblies for my jeep. I want to buy some of these new Halo Projector headlight assemblies for my 2003 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. I know I want to go with the 8000k setup, however i dont know if you can legally use both high and low beam HID's I know low beams are ok in a projector setup, but not sure about the rest. Also , does anyone have a specific style or company for the conversion kit, or headlight assemblies I should look into?

I am plenty qualified to install the units, just don't know much about whats legal/better, and affordable. Any input will greatly help me out. I see a lot of the halo projector assemblies on Ebay, but are they direct fit, and what quality are they ? if you have any experience with them, let me know. thanks all .

They are legal. 8000K are actually illegal in some places because of the color. I suggest 5000k or 6000K.

I'd go with xenondepot HIDS, and the projectors for a WJ can be found on ebay.

Good luck

they're not necessarily legal just because it's a projector. there is a difference between halogen and HID projector fittings and I highly doubt the eBay ones are HID compliant. the only way you can make aftermarket HID's truly legal is to buy a projector from a car that came with factory HID's (a popular one is the Acura TSX) and retrofit them into your headlight housing. this is a hot topic in the Subaru community as many people have actually had their headlight and foglight housings start on fire and ruin the whole front end of their car because they were using HID's in halogen housings.

HIDs in any vehicle that didn't come that way from the factory is illegal. That said, I don't know anyone who has been pulled over for having HIDs.

The eBay projectors are not designed for HIDs. That said, even the eBay projectors have a better beam pattern than reflector housings. From best to worst you have: "true retrofit" > "eBay projectors" > "stock housings".

If you are going to buy projectors for your WJ, make sure you get the V3 Projectors. They give out the most light output and they look the best. Go with 5k or 6k HID's.

Just like the above have said. You are going to want to get the V3 projectors (not just saying cause I have them, LOL) but they are the nicest looking ones. And you don't want to get higher then 5k or 6k HIDs, anything higher doesn't have that great of a light output. The headlights are a direct fit, just a few wires to tap if you want to use the halos and the extra LEDs they have in them. I tapped the halos into my parking lights, and the LEDs into my signals. And as far as HIDs in Lows and Highs, honestly its not worth it. Lows and Fogs if you ask me.

I've been pulled over for my HID's. however it was for the factory HID's in my 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and the cop was a bonehead. lol but it's the thought that counts.

I just frown upon HID's in reflector housings because it's a safety issue. no matter how they're aimed, they cause a ton of glare for oncoming traffic and they're just so played out by everyone that rices out a Civic or Integra that I really don't like them anymore.

Re: HID / Projector Light questions.

just for reference, im not solely doing this for the visual effect of the halos or colored lights (although both are a bonus for me), the stock headlights on my 03'are quite honestly garbage unless they are on high beam, which is useless. I'm looking for a significantly brighter setup. an elk at 40 yards that i cant make out on low beams at 50+ mph is a scary issue. not to mention the lenses are fogged pretty badly.

Re: HID / Projector Light questions.

so just use plain old 9006's on the highs?

Re: HID / Projector Light questions.

9006xs are the lows
9005xs for highs
For HIDs you will be fine with 9006 for the lows
but for regular halogens for lows and highs you need the ones that say XS. AS those have a flat bottom and not a right angle. The right angle ones wont fit properly.
for reference. 9006xs

You don't have to install the Halos and LED's. The projectors themselves are perfect and have a really good light output! Even better if you get 5k or 6k instead of 8k if that's what you want!
