Anyone tried to do an amberectomy on a WK2?

For those not familar, an amberectomy is the process of removing the amber reflectors from the front headlight casings.

Sometimes a carbon or conspicuity tape can look good providing the amber lights are close enough to the surface of the casing.

I saw the dubai overland in this thread and am now thinking of doing the same thing myself:

And on the SEMA Street:

Along these lines has anyone removed the bottom red reflector on the rear bumper and changed it with a smoked lens? I have a mineral gray wk2 and think it will match well.

Re: Amberectomy?
buy new ones and have them tinted.

To the OP....send a PM to DCSpecial. he opened my oem HID's and painted them. Im sure he could remove the amber in the wk2 lamps

Re: Amberectomy?
Opening the fixtures seems very very risky. People did this with E90 BMWs. Ungluing the fixtures risked cracks. Resealing the fixtures was never as good as factory original. I was hoping someone else would try this first ;)

Looking at pictures like the one below, it looks like foil tape over the outside of the fixture could work. The tape would match the reflective surface on the inside. But I'm doubtful it wouldn't be noticeable.

Most BMW mods ended up using some sort of tape or tint rather than removing the reflector. I don't have my WK2 yet, so I don't know how well it will work.
