Horrible front end noise

So we finally got so snow tonight. So on the way home I put it in snow mode before leaving. All of the sudden I started hearing this horrible sound coming from the front right when I would let off the accelerator. At first I thought the muffler was dragging, it sounded that loud. Almost like bad resingating or a tennis ball being shacked in a coffee can. I switch it back to auto and the sound went away, back to snow and it did it when I lifted off the gas. I brought this to the dealer before when it made the sound turning corners, but they could not replicate it. Any ideas on what this could be

seems most likely to be a differential problem, snow mode locks in a 50/50 torque split, and you might hear it cornering on normal mode because torque is sent up front. Thats my best guess.

It went away when I used sport mode in the summer. Can't do that with the snow on the roads. will this cause any damage if I can't get it into the dealership right away.

Thanks for the reply.

If it is a diff problem then absolutely it will if damage hasn't already been done. If possible I would get it into the dealership asap.

I just kept it off snow mode and on auto. Still made the sound a couple times while turning. I have a appt on Monday to get it looked at.

Just got back from the dealership. Once again they could not duplicate the sound. This time they took two techs with them and tried every mode on snow and dry. I tried snow mode on the way to the dealership and it didn't make any weird sounds. Makes me mad that it never happens when they drive it. Oh well I will drive it until it does it again or breaks then back to the dealership.

if it was a diff problem...it would make the noise every time....

Maybe you just had a stone in a suspension part, brake pad etc.

Yeah I'm hoping it was a one time thing. Weird how it went away when I switched to auto the came back when I switched to snow again.

Little update. I get home yesterday and there a message from the dealer stating they have upper shock mounts they need to install. This was never mentioned to me when I picked it up or was even a problem.

I had almost the exact same problem with my 2006 Overland. Was bad enough that I sent it to the dealer on a Flatbed truck. They never found the cause and also could not replicate it. The problem went away and I did not have the same problem ever again until I sold it.
So yeah, maybe a stone caught up somewhere in the drivetrain. Brake caliper maybe?

I could see if it was during braking but just lifting off the gas. anyway have to see if it does it again when I put it in snow mode again.

The upper shock mounts are for the rear shocks that they called me about. I was told it was almost like a TSB to prevent possible future problems.

Sometimes the dealer finds the problem, fixes it and says there wasn't anything wrong. Know that for a fact.
