performance ?'s

Hello all, new to this forum, but not to Jeep vehicles. I've owned an '89 Jeep Wagoneer 4.0L, '95 GC limited 5.2L, '05 Jeep GC 4.7L, and currently own a Dodge Charger R/T. Well I'm looking into getting back into a Jeep, but have a few questions. I know alot of you guys seem to be into the off road aspect of Jeep Grand Cherokee's, but I have a question about the 5.7L HEMI motor. Now I assume it is the same motor and tranny I have in my car, but I noticed 5.7L HEMI "Jeep" aftermarket performance cam shafts and heads are hard to find is existent at all. My question is does anybody know if I took the cam and heads off my Charger, would they work on the Jeep? Would the AWD systems be able to handle the added power? I know the diablo predator tuner is compatible between the different engines. Curious is anyone has done this or has any insight.

welcome derek! I dont have a hemi but I'm pretty sure the 5.7 hemis are the same and everything should be interchangeable. The QD2 is a great system and wouldnt have a problem with extra power. Intakes and things will be different on the Jeep. Bwoody performance makes a great CAI for the 6.1/5.7. Check it out here...they are a vendor here.
Maybe some of the 5.7 hemi guys will chime in soon with more mods....like the 180 tstat and such

Re: performance ?'s

That would be the 180 stat made by jet lol...Dont worry about the AWD system not unless you getting close to 500HP to the crank...I have a 5.9 psuhing 400 HP at the crank and my AWD is handling it great the tanny didnt lol but the transfer case is fine and its used lol...

Re: performance ?'s

Welcome. As far as i knwo your parts should fit fine, the base line 5.7 SHOULD be the same among the different vehicles but may vary by year, but thats my own assumption.

Also, You will find more street jeep owners on here then 4x4 off road jeepers, We do have some but its a smaller part of our jeep garage community at the moment.

Good luck!

5.7 mods; depends on budget, no MY given

Intake. Pick 'em.
Exhaust. be sure its 3 inch and comes with a resonator unless you like drone
Tune. If 07+ Diablo, all MY SCT, SuperChips,
Ported TB. Fastman hands down.
180 thermostat. Jet.
Heads and Cam. HHP http://estore.websitepros.com/802805...=HEMI+CHEROKEE

Headers. None but have heard one or two adapting srt8 ones.
TCM mod. I think MHP has these ready for the Hemi, not sure. thery gain 3 tenths on SRT8 for 1100 bux.

Turbo. I know of at least one that has been done. Jeep owner is Escape. I forget builders name.

Derekblk06rt,

First question I have is what year Jeep are you looking at getting and what is your goal with it?

From Edmunds "With the RT, Chrysler's now famous 5.7-liter Hemi V8 comes standard. It puts out impressive numbers: 340 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 390 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. That Road/Track Performance Group option bumps horsepower to 350 hp at 5,200 rpm (torque remains the same) by increasing the size of the intake tube running into the throttle body and replacing the three-passage muffler unit with a more straight-through design."

The 5.7 Short blocks are the same. The heads, valves, springs and intake manifold should be the same depending on year and air filter box and it's location is different due to the engine bay layout. It puts out roughly the same numbers as the Jeep.

The Jeep has MDS not sure about the R/T

With just heads and cam the AWD will be more than able to handle it...when you get above 500hp at the wheels then you might have to worry about it. The Jeep stock puts out around 290 at the wheels, so you have pleanty of play room.

If your looking for heads and performance parts check here:

http://www.sharadon.com/

talk to Denny or Jerry and tell them James sent you.

or try here:

If you need any more info let me know, and yes your heads and cam will fit...I'm not sure if they would help or acheive your goals without seeing the specs on what you have.

Re: performance ?'s

thanks for your help all, my R/T has MDS, I'm looking into either an SRT or Limited/Overland from the current generation (2005-2008), soley for street use and occasional trip down the strip. i can get the limited/overload option for a lot cheaper than the SRT in my area (central PA), srt's are hard to come by. If I went the Limited/Overland route it would most likely be a sleeper, maybe some mild exterior hints as to what it really has. hope that helps.

also are the AWD systems on an SRT and Overland the same?? I know the SRT has QT on demand and overland has QT II, what's the difference? I know the SRT AWD system can handle well over 500hp. If they are close or the same, i'd think the QT II could handle about that as well.
