Road Trip to get my WK2

Well I got frustrated with Chrysler not building my order. 12 weeks and counting, still "D" status. So Friday I used the Jeep.com "check inventory" tool and started checking inventory in a 200 mile radius around every state capital!

I ended up finding my exact spec sitting on a dealer lot in NJ! So I called him, made the deal, and I'll be flying out to pick it up next weekend and drive it back to Chicago. I was going to have to rent a car for the christmas holidays, and the cost of the flight to NY and gas back is less than the cost of renting for 2 weeks!

Question is -- should I stop in Cleveland for my first oil change?

This is exactly how I found mine in Missouri, except I had them truck it over for 500. A road trip sounds fun though!

Envious! That is exactly the scenario I would enjoy doing, notwithstanding the comments from the "oil change" threads that say you shouldn't do a lot of extended highway miles on a new engine. Do the stopover in Cleveland and hit the Rock and Roll HoF while you're there! Safe travels and advance congrats!

Good for you.
As for oil change, everyone has an opinion so I'll give mine. The first oil change is at 8,000 km for us Canadians and I don't plan to take it in any sooner. I'm at 5,000+ km having done two long trips so far.

I would change the oil in Ohio if your oil is pass 500-1000 miles. Normally I would say 2000 but with you being the road assuming that your going to stay at or near the same speed/rev, I would change sooner.

Agreed. I'm closing in on 2,000km on the V6.

Just curious, why do people think you should do the first oil change so much earlier if you're going to be on an extended trip? It doesn't seem to me that should make a difference. If anything, I'd think it would be a little later, since those miles would take less time. 500-1000 miles could literally be the first day you have the car.

No need to change oil until you get home and considering the one long trip piling on miles, it won't be an issue to go 1500-2000 miles before that first change. The one thing I would do is, for the first 300 miles, take the rural roads rather than the interstate and do so in the Tow/Haul mode. Then after ~300 miles hop on the interstate and vary your speed a bit avoiding cruise control (55mph then 65+mph, etc) all the way home. I'd definitely avoid redline until after 300 miles as well, but don't baby it too much either. Enjoy the ride back to the Windy City.

Good advice.

Thumbsup, congrats man. I did the same thing.

+1 you must stop in Cleveburg - to kneel at the altar of the RR Hall of Fame.

Enjoy.
