What should I look for today? Overland is here!!!

:DHey guys! I love this forum--it is without a doubt the best and most informative forum I belong to. Kudos to everyone for being so professional and frank! My OVERLAND IS HERE, and I am not trying to re-invent the wheel, but I cannot find on this forum, the thread that talked about WHAT WE SHOULD LOOK FOR UPON DELIVERY. WAS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WISHED YOU LOOKED AT BEFORE YO LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTICED WHEN YOU GOT HOME? ANY "GOTCHA'S"? A BIG THANK YOU in advance for any suggestions or experiences guys! Take care!

Look for a big ole' SEG to be planted on your face for a week or more.

I cannot think of anything you should check beyond the usual: spare tire, flashlight, making sure all the equipment you ordered is actually there, etc.

The one thing I would recommend is preparing for the post sale hard sell(s). Since I buy a new car only about once every ten years or so, I found that my dealer's post-sale hard sell of add-ons are considerably more extensive than when I last purchased a new car in 1999. Know up front whether you want lojak, rustproofing, wax sealant, leather conditioner, etc.. Personally I think they are all bad deals - at least at the prices the dealer was quoting - and turned them all down out of hand. But the sales lady was persistent and beginning to resonate with my wife before I shut down the sales pitch. If you are interested in any of this, I would recommend doing some quick pricing with non-dealers or on the internet before arriving. You can probably do better elsewhere for most of this.

What I said above goes doubly for the extended warranty. If you intend to buy one, you need to arrive with a price for the type and length warranty you want to buy at the deductible you want to pay. As someone who has never let go of a car before 10 years, I was interested in Chrysler's Lifetime Max Care which essentially extends the bumper-to-bumper warranty for as long as you own the car. One of the sites recommended by members of this forum is www.chryslerwarrantys.com. I let the financial guy pitch the warranty he wanted to sell me (Easy Care, 7/125,000 for $4000) and then asked him about the Chrysler warranty. After describing all the evils of the Chrysler warranty ("you HAVE to go to a Chrysler dealership, not an independent shop, which are NEVER open on Sundays...." you get the idea), he told me the Chrysler Max Care Lifetime with $100 deductible would be $3800 or something like that. When I showed him the $2100 estimate I got at the website (not counting the additional $150 off!) he refused to deal with me and I paid for the car and left. I ended up buying the warranty on the website.
So, you really need to know what the price of extended warranties are if you intend to get one that day (and you can wait, if you wish) so you know you are getting a fair price.

Here is a list that I put together which is a combination of alot of things from this forum.

If your Jeep has the following options:

- Chrome Edition (fog light bezels, tube steps, door sill guards), no brainer
- Exterior (damage from shipping)
- Trailer Tow Group IV
- Under the hood (caps, covers, convenience light, etc.)
- Remote start
- Steering wheel audio controls (because the manufacturer can forget these)
- Convenience LED lights (door handles, door pockets, etc.)
- Command-View (function properly)
- 430N or 730N unit (Garmin, Uconnect, streaming blu-tooth and back-up camera)
- Power liftgate (functions properly)
- Quadra-lift air suspension (various modes)
- Quadra-Drive II (operational)
- Advance Warning / Adaptive Cruise (functions properly)
- Auto front windows down (press fob unlock button twice, hold on the second press)
- Proximity entry (functions properly)
- Check for engine shudder at highway and cruising speeds (while slowing down from highway speeds)

Great advice. It also made me wonder about the psychology of this discussion with the salesperson. I think that when someone is allowed to present a warranty price that is so far from reality (~$4000), it makes it extremely difficult for them to backtrack and save face when we whip out our internet deal which is cheaper by an order of magnitude. Since there seems to be an informed consensus here that the internet warranty price is very good, then I'm inclined to lead with this number. It seems more efficient to put it out there as a starting point and save everyone the trouble of a tedious dog and pony show.

I will use this approach at the appropriate time and report back with my findings.

PS: I was pleased to see that Redcivic47 dished out some sweet comeuppance to his sluggish and indifferent dealer, even going so far as to get the guy to offset the NJ tax with a further discount! WTG, Rc47!!

To avoid the annoying post sale-Chrsyler hard sale, either pay cash or come with a check from another bank, then you avoid sitting in that room with them.

When I bought my BMW and Acura, I had none of that annoyance. Even the commander I currently own that came from a Dodge dealer didn't have that crap. But my current WJ dealership experience did. After about 30 seconds, I just told him I wasn't buying anything, he said it was how he got to eat at night was to sell me on this stuff. Oh well.
