Help Me!!! First gear issues!!!

So I just bought a 2007 Limited GC off of a used car lot. I'm have an issue with first gear. When I'm driving around town and get to 40MPH and then slow down to 25MPH, the car bucks and bangs into first gear. I have brought it back twice now and they haven't been able to "replicate" the issue (so they are calling me crazy / don't want to pay for it) They also said the transmission isn't tripping any codes so they don't know where the issue I am talking about is stemming from. The second time I brought it in I went with the guy to show him...wouldn't you know it, it wasn't banging into first gear BUT it was because I was coming down from 60MPH instead of the 40MPH where I am having the trouble (I realized this after I took the car back from them the second time) I brought it into a mechanic to get inspected and told him about the issue. He took it for a drive and believed that the transmission computer or something like that might just need to be reset. I'm not going crazy if he felt the buck at 25MPH coming down from 40MPH AND even my Mom felt it when I took her around to show her my new purchase. Does anyone have any advice or input as to what could be going on?! I bring the car back again tomorrow to get looked at and I want to go in with some idea of what I am talking about so they can FINALLY fix it. I don't want this to be an issue further down the line that I have to fix out of pocket when the warranty is expired.

That's what the mechanic said but I wasn't happy with that answer. It's my first big life purchase and I want it to go into first seamlessly (sounds a bit selfish haha) I just find it weird that it only bangs into 1st when I'm coming down from 40MPH and not anything higher.

Dropping the pan and replacing the filters, and then filling up with a good quaility atf+4 fluid would be the first step if there are no codes in the system.

How many miles are on this WK? I'd first check for TSB's (http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_tsb.htm) for your year/model. If there are any for the transmission, have them done, or make sure they have been previously complied with. If none are found, then I'd do as suggested above....change fluid and filters. Be sure the main filter is seated properly...see shop manual instructions. Make sure the fluid level is correct with everything warmed up. It does almost sound like a TCM programming issue. As suggested above, you may also want to do a reset of the PCM/TCM, so it can re-learn. One other possiblity could be a sticking shift solenoid, since the solenoid pack controls all upshifts/downshifts using input from the TCM.

A couple other questions: How does the engine run? Any engine surging, loping at idle, or loss of, or reduced power?

Re: Help Me!!! First gear issues!!!

Not sure if this will help but i also have a 99 dodge dakota that when you were driving in OD then got to slow down the trans would downshift by its self. It ended up being the shift sensor which was a piece of metal with a bunch of wires going to it. I kinda figured it was the shift sensor but it wouldn't throw a code for it until a year and a half later. Luckily i didn't take it on the highway much so it didn't bother me. But come on Chrysler a year and a half later finally a code?!?!?!?!?

I just drove past the 60,000 mile marker. Those are all the things that I was thinking as well. I am going to make sure that they change / service it. I just paid my first payment and want it running mint.

these could be risky but take it to the dealer ship see what they say and get it in writing go back to the lot and demand to fix also get one of those free lawyers to give them a call they get scared right away.

a while ago my mom bought a cherokee and i told them something was wrong with the brakes cuz they would stick when slamming on the breaks and letting go. took it back 2 times they said thats how jeeps feel so i said bull sheet took of the back tires and saw that the drum breaks pads were just too tight. my mom ended up return in it so did all the work for nothing. but the lesson here is and dealership or used car lot dont want to spend the money to fix and will lie to you no matter what

Striker, you may want to start with the wkjeeps.com site and click through to the TSB Transmission category below.

http://wkjeeps.com/wk_tsb.htm#TRANSMISSION

For instance, this shows up as a 2007 harsh shift TSB from 1-2 or 2-3 gears.

Per MeanDean's reference, the guys on the WK forum are Jeep Garage's most knowledgeable members and will chime in quickly for you. Many know more than some mechanics, and can confirm that you aren't crazy.
