When should I order an Overland re: new options

I've heard some things like the radio, etc. are changing over the next few months. If my ordering time if flexible, should I order now or wait a few months?

Just trying to get informed.

Thanks

I have owned 5 GC Jeeps. I have owned Audi's, Lexus. Without a doubt, the redesigned 2011 GC is the best bang for the buck, in majority of important features that are important to the discriment buyer. The threshold for patience does vary. However, the wait will be worth it. My 2011 Overland Hemi, Brilliant Black, Black/Saddle interior, Tech. Pkg. was ordered Sept.. The vehicle is in transit and expected dealer arrival week of XMas. Regarding the Nav. 730 RHR vs. Garmin interface/features. IMO, with the exception of the minority of techie's who embrace and will engage each and every feature, the majority will be more than satisfied with the Garmin. By the way, this holds true for the much talked about 8-speed transmission. IMO...!

Milous has a thread offering dates for upcoming features... with ordering and production dates:
http://www.jeepgarage.org/f73/jeepgarage-exclusive-latest-information-and-updates-on-the-wk2-grand-cherokee-4482.html

You will note that nearly all upcoming features are already available for ordering, but that the production date happens to be in the near future.

IMO, there is little need to wait on placing your order.

Depends on your tolerance for uncertainty. Some of us are waiting to see the item codes for the features we want with our own eyes on the dealer's screen when we place the order. Re the radio, this approach is probably overkill because it looks certain that the new 730n RHR model will be available soon. It gets trickier for those of us who missed the window for ordering the saddle/black interior that is now restricted to the Summit edition. There is no telling when or even if that color will be available in the regular Overland again (unless I missed something).

So personally, I'm waiting for a bit longer. That said, I saw the black interior with piping earlier this week and I could definitely live with that! So if things drag out too long I may just loosen my preferences.

What features are most important to you that have questionable availability?

The best available information supports the fact Saddle/Black interior is available for production, available on Overlands (not restricted to Summit Edition), and there is no information out there that support Saddle/Black interior is limited production.

There will always be something newer/better/worse/different that can give you cognitive dissonance. If you like the GC as it is now, then buy one. If you worry about missing out on something in the next model year, then don't ever buy a vehicle because there will always be something else that makes you think "oh I should have waited for THAT had I known..." abd you will always be waiting. Life is too short to wait around for what-ifs on relatively unimportant things like new vehicles, IMHO.

Well said!

Thanks guys. Regarding the "if I like GC shouldn't wait" argument, that's exactly what I don't want to do. I'm the type of guy that would be pissed off if I knew I could have waited another month for a new option. Everything with me is at the margin.. thanks for the feedback though guys and it sounds like it's quite safe to order at this point.

It must get pretty interesting when you shop for a new computer. :D

New options = excuse to mod your rig!

Maybe wait a few months more for the 2012 models. But wait, you would still have the same problem! 2013 models just a few more months.

There will always be something new around the corner. I am going to enjoy mine today. Just my thoughts.

I would be hesitant to order at all. Until they get all the supply-side issues resolved, you're going to have just as much luck finding your truck in dealer inventory someplace as you will waiting in the order black-hole, and it will be much less frustrating!

In addition, you won't face the issue of "I put a deposit on an order, but I've been waiting so long that this new feature is available I wish I had ordered. Do I stick with my order or abandon my deposit?"

MANY of us have given up on our orders and found exactly what we wanted sitting on a lot someplace. I ordered mine before the tech package could be ordered, but at this point my order still doesn't have a build date, and I kinda wish I'd have ordered the tech package. I found exactly what I wanted on a dealer lot, with the tech package, and I'm picking it up Monday.

Fair points, thank you. I found my '09 CTS-V on a dealer lot with the exact options I wanted and got it much faster than had I ordered it.

I have a really specific wish list for the Jeep though, and since I plan on buying it and keeping it for at least 5-7 years, I don't want to comprimise. Specifically, I want white/5.7/rear DVD/off road/chrome. If I can find that on a lot all the better... but don't expect to see the same configuration.
