This is from a friend:
My 2005 Jeep Cherokee 5.7 needs a new PCM and I don't wanna fork out the $600 that the dealer wants. *I can get a used one for $120.00, but I'm being told that I cannot buy a used one because they are coded for the vin number from the vehicle they originally came on and that 9 times out of 10, having it flashed will not work.
Here is the short version of how all this went down..
Traction control light came on and Jeep started running like crap. Replaced oil, throttle body, wiring from TB to PCM and flashed everything. Now the dealer used indintifix and they are telling me that the problem is the PCM. I've done a little research and it seems lots of modern mopar guys are having the same issues with throttle body and then PCM but I have yet to see anyone post saying the problem has been fixed.. *I don't know where to turn at the point. I surely don't want to toss in another $800-$900 and still be stuck..
Re: Used PCM
Try to get refurbished one. They are much cheaper than OEM. Warranty is one year
