Irritating stuff

A few things I really find irritating.

1. I wait for my new Overland to get here so I can get the right ball mount for my trailers. I need a six inch drop hitch to fit five different trailers that I pull. I need a max tow hitch. My new forged aluminum, six inch drop, ball mount will not fit into the storage area by the spare tire. So....where does Jeep think I am going to store this hitch??? Doesn't anyone at Jeep check this stuff out? :(

2. I use reading glasses to see road maps (remember those?) or read notes or other stuff....and I carry a cell phone....oftentimes I need a pen or pencil when driving. There is no "handy" place to temporarily store these and other small items while driving. Everything has a curved surface of holds beverages or has an access door on it. Doesn't anyone think about this stuff? :(

There is more....but this sorta stuff really ticks me off. I will solve these issues.....but I don't think I should have to. I feel like I'm off on the wrong foot with this vehicle. I want to like it.....but there is always a "but" :(

OH....and dont get me started on the Off Road Adventure 18" tires......grrrrrrr

OK....rant over.

The hitch might fit next to the spare if you take one of the storage bins out? Mine does but it's only a 4 inch drop.

Pens can go into the top half of the armrest nicely, and phones go anywhere, from bev holders, to console door, to the grab handle in the driver's side door.

You should be fine, the wait however, would drive me nuts too.

If those things are that important to you...why would they not be a discriminator before you purchase your vehicle. I noticed that it was a little lacking in "compartments" for all kinds of things compared to my RAM truck i traded in, but all the positives of the vehicle far out weighed those minor lacking things. I agree with moosedhead, you need to use what is available and be creative in how you store things. Could your hitch also not fit under the back seats in a bag? Lots of room under those seats.

I agree that there are creative solutions and that one man's bug is another man's feature. For instance, I am glad that the center stack cubby has a door. I tend to accumulate a pile of stuff in the open tray in my WJ Limited-- cig adapter chargers, cables, chapstick, BT headset. Access is great but it can begin to look like a rat's nest and drives me crazy. I will much prefer to put that stuff out of sight and opening a door to get to it will be worth the cleaner look.

On that note, the center console positioning seems to require an awkward motion to access for me personally. It's like I've got to point my elbow directly up in order to get in there. As a discriminating buyer I have identified this prior to purchase and will adjust my lifestyle accordingly. (PS: best center console I ever had was in my '03 Ford Expedition. That thing was cavernous and the lid was perfectly situated so that you could do some serious prospecting in there.)

The inability for the rear compartment to hold my ball mount (draw bar) is inexcuseable. I live in MN.....it gets muddy / snowy / yucky here. I do not want to store a ball mount under the rear seat in a plastic bag (think messy, safety and rust). The compartment by the spare is the logical place to carry a ball mount.....and many folks with SUV's tow stuff.

OH....I suppose I could remove the handy bins and let some air out of the spare tire and make it fit. Do you think I am supposed to plan for this type of thing before I buy a vehicle too? Duh :slapfight:

Inexcusable.....I don't care who's badge is on the hood.

Let us know what solution you come up with.

So let me get this straight; you need a rather extreme drop hitch, you won't leave it at home in the garage, and you're mad because Jeep didn't design a special cargo area for the hitch from hell? My 1996 Ram doesn't have a special place to store a large weight distributing hitch either; I get over it. I'd try to find a way to stick it down next to the spare (if that means pulling one of the caddys, so be it) or else just get a plastic box you can keep in the cargo area if you really need to tow on the spur of the moment. Or get a lock for the hitch mount and leave it mounted.

As for the passenger compartment cubbies, I've found a reasonable amount of storage- way better than my Patriot was, but it's no minivan when it comes to nooks and crannies. I like the doors on the storage areas- keeps the valuables like the iPod in the lower center stack from being visible to thieves. I don't really want to show off everything I might have in there. I keep pads of paper and pens the in the armrest tray, other assorted stuff in the armrest bin.

No offense, dude, but it seems to me that you're griping because the engineers didn't know your exact specs for your ideal vehicle. Yes, the thing costs over $40,000, but that doesn't mean it will be everything to everybody.

Well...I guess you'll never be happy with any vehicle. No manufacturer can build a vehicle to match all your own personal desires. Good luck solving your problem.

The six inch drop is not "extreme". Instead it is just the right drop for each of six trailers I own....and this EXTREMELY high receiver! And no...I don't want to leave my hitch at home. I have a trailers located at other locations and leaving my hitch at home is dumb. My hitch is not a hitch from hell, it's a brand new 8000 lb capacity hitch WHICH IS ONE OF THE PRIME REASONS I BOUGHT THE JEEP - The TOW RATING. I have tried pulling a "caddie"....no go. I can remove the jack or the tire. DUH!....right. This is not a weight distributing hitch....its simply a six inch drop draw bar. Don't over-state what I am doing here. OK? Leave it on = rust and a shin breaker. I quit doing stuff like that a long time ago...and I do not think a vehicle of this advertised stature should require this. I like stuff that works properly. That is not too much to ask.

No offense taken Dood. But it seems to me that the engineers outta find a way for me to store the REQUIRED draw bar. And....THAT IS NOT BEING EVERYTHING TO EVERYBODY. Its common sense....and that son is required to be in the auto biz today!

What you are doing is making excuses. That ain't gonna cut it.

I think I am done with this board. See ya. :slapfight:
