remote keyless entry have stopped working

My 2 remotes aren't working properly. I can't unlock or lock the doors. Do I just replace the batteries or do I need to take it to a dealer and have them do it?? this is gay if it doesn't work haha.

You can pop the remotes apart and change the batteries yourself but it seems funny that neither remote works.

There's a number on the back side of the battery. Radio Shack can fix you up and even Wal-Fart has them by the checkout counters now.

My 05 WK, I had to solder the battery holder. It was so bad I had to be next to the vehicle to get it to work. When you insert the battery, it increases the tension on the holder. It is a poor design.

Re: remote keyless entry have stopped working

The WJ remote uses 2 x CR2016 3V batteries. Take care of the polarity when changing the batteries.
The jeep manual also states the following:

The RKE system for this model uses a rolling
code security strategy. This strategy requires
that synchronization be maintained between the
RKE transmitter and the RKE receiver. RKE transmitter
battery removal or replacement can cause a
loss of synchronization. If the RKE receiver fails to
respond to the RKE transmitter following battery
removal or replacement, depress and release the
RKE transmitter Unlock button repeatedly while listening
carefully for the power door locks in the
vehicle to cycle. After between five and eight
presses of the Unlock button, the power door locks
should cycle, indicating that re-synchronization has
occurred.

I just changed the battery to my '05 WK remote because it stopped working about a week ago. now with a brand new battery it's still not working. I tried the stuff mentioned by Frango100 but nothing. any other advice, folks?

Re: remote keyless entry have stopped working

Not sure if the WK has the same system as the WJ, but most probably the stealer has to reprogram the remote controls into the memory of the remote keyless entry module. Still can be that the remote control is inop, but also a new remote has to be programmed to be reckognized.

If the battery has been run down for sometime, apparently what happens when you replace it, is that there is a sudden surge and it fries the circuit. I was told this by one of the guys I know at my local dealer.

Mercedes fobs have the same problem. The 'cure' is to change your battery every year. The dealership has been doing that and had no problems.

I only know this cause it happened to me and it cost 120 ($180) to get a new fob re-programmed!!!
