end float D44a
greeting i was just wondering has anyone had any end float movement causing a metalic nock in the rear axles in their D44a diffs in a wg 2003 The nock can be replicated by moving the back wheels when the jeeps jacked up off the ground regards

Just to have a better idea, when exactly when driving you will hear it? During acceleration, deceleration or in whichever situation? When you move the wheels, isnīt it just the play in the gears which you can feel and hear a bit? If there is indeed some knock, i would start checking the oil level in the diff and check for any contamination in the oil.

I'm pretty sure the noise you are referring to is totally normal. Have you tried the same up front? I think you're just hearing the play in the driveline when you spin one of the wheels in one direction and then stop it abruptly. If it's making the noise and it's audible during driving, then you have an issue, but up in the air only...I think what you are referring to is normal. Either way, stick a finger in the diff (sounds dirty) and make sure the fluid is topped off.

Re: end float D44a
Sorry i should have provided more info if you place one hand on top of the wheel and one underneath as if checking a wheel bearing you can duplcate the nock the same result with the jeep on the ground if you rock it hard enough. So far we have simmed against the oil seal hoping the steel in the seal was strong enough but not so. So we need to sim in such a way as not to put pressure on the seal , I had the same issue with my XJ we shimmed the 8.25 but it is a C Clip. The oil has been changed and the nock is only heard at low speed then road noise drowns it out so any suggestions thanks again for your replies i hope the weather is not affecting you to much we are in the middle of our summer here in aus
