Ultimate MyGig Question!!!-HELP!!!

Is it possible to put an oem my gig system into a laredo 2008 that has the standard am/fm radio without the nav screen? b/c this has been a huge deal with me waiting 4 months so far to get my jeep b/c i can't find a 4.7L v8 2008 or up with the oem nav in it as well as leather seats. I can easily find one with leather seats and the am/fm radio just not the nav

I looked up on ebay i can buy an oem one and try to install but some dealer said it wasn't possible? help please it would help me out tremendously!!

It can be done but you will need the radio and the nav antenna. Many have done it. I will be doing that same upgrade to mine shortly too.

You will need a V.2 lockpick adapter harness that various companies offer. I used Coastaltech http://www.coastaletech.com/ for all of my stuff. If your jeep did not come with uconnect button in the rear view mirror then you will also have to buy the microphone from Coastal tech as well. It just plugs into the back of the MyGiG. Make sure you purchase a low bus speed RER My GiG as these adapters are not compatable with high speed MyGiGs. As previously indicated you will also need the "correct" Nav antenna which you will first need the radio to know which one is compatable with it. You can pick one up at the dealership. Also you will need a new radio bezel to accommodate the new installation. It cost me about $170.00 at the dealership. The site I provided above is very helpful and has alot of information about the products they offer as well as installation procedures. It was a fairly costly upgrade but I am VERY happy with it. All harnesses are plug and play and the installation is not difficult. Hope this helps!

Actually I just realised that your jeep is an 08 so you may not need the adapter harness at all. It may just be a direct plug and play. You will however need the mic, nav antenna, Sirius sat antenna and probably the bezel if your Jeep did not come with a nav REC.

thanks for all the info. so how much are we talking in all price wise? let me know and if you can send some before and after pics that would be good. also, does everything work well or is it somewhat not as good with the aftermarket mic and what not...thanks!

The list of parts and costs are as follows:
Low bus speed RER My GiG used (bought it on ebay) $675 (you need a low speed one)
REC radio bezel from dealership $170
bezel insert to fill in the spaces on the top and bottom of the My GiG (bought it off ebay) $50
V.2 lockpick adapter harness from Coastaltech $200 but you will probably not need this
Multi-media harness so I can run iphone video and other video inputs such as rear and front cameras and rear seat dvd $65. I would recommend you get this while you are at it.
microphone from coastal tech $30
Nav antenna from the dealership $170
Sirius Sat antenna (bought off ebay) $20.

Grand total $1280

If you are doing this I would recommend that you purchase the Lock Pick and Multi-Media harnesses, along with the microphone, from Coastal Tech...or another vendor. Perhaps another member can chime in and offer this information about other MyGiG swap vendors. The Lock Pick will allow Navagation use as well as DVD use while the Jeep is in motion. MyGiGs come with these features blocked when vehicle is taken out of park. Coastal tech also provides rear and front cameras that can be connected to their Multi-Media harness...for a cost but I cannot remember how much. I did not buy these but I can easily upgrade to them in the future if I want because I purchased their Multi-Media harness.
WK Jeeps05-10 has some good info about MyGiGs and swaping them into Jeeps that did not come from the factory with them. The site also has part#s so you can compare with MyGiGs that you may be wanting to buy off of ebay...to make sure its a Low Speed one.
Dealerships up here in Canada charge even more for parts and service then they do in the US (if that's possible) so you will likely pay less for the dealership parts. Very easy install. Make sure that if you buy any parts from Coastal Tech that you request theircomplimentary MyGiG software update disk. Unless you request it they will not put it in the box with the other parts. I am very poor at taking pictiure and putting them on the site, or anywhere else on the internet. I will asdk my daughter to help me later on today and try to get a pick of the finished install up.

Here is a couple of pics of the final installation. My Jeep is an 05 Limited that previously had a RAQ radio.Note the location of the mic sticking out of the top left hand corner of the black bezel trim. The mic and the Uconnect work perfectly, my favorite option of the set up. In the expanded picture you can see where the connecting wires are for the ipod hook up that is attached to the Multi-Media harness that I got from Coastaltech.

I don't know how much of a difference there is between the 08 and 10 dash, but I just put a mygig in my 10 and it was the easiest install I've done in all the aftermarket installs I've done in my cars over the years. There are instructions available online at several differnent sites. It is basically a plug and play. I got a preprogrammed unit on ebay from oemautopartsco.com for $875. It included the gps antenna and mic. I didn't need the sirius antenna because mine was already equiped with it. I didn't get the lockpic. Removing the res unit and installing the new rer unit took less than an hour. The mygig is much better than the equivalent Kenwood or Pioneer units I've had in the past. I think it would be easier to find the wk you want and installing a unit, than trying to find one equiped with a mygig.JMHO
