Bimmer to WK2?

I get the impression from reading this and other forums that few of you are making the switch from fast performance oriented cars to WK2. I currently own a 335i Xdrive. I really enjoy the performance of this car, but maybe I'm outgrowing the boyracer in me. I really like the look, features, and capabilities of the WK2.

I know these 2 vehicles have as much in common as Homer Simpson and Bill Gates and also know that each person has different taste, but would just like to hear from those who made the switch from a perfomance oriented cars to WK2. Do you miss it, etc.? The car turns as if it's on rails so I would miss that.

Thanks.

I have a 2009 335i along with my Jeep GC. I can honestly say that I don't really miss driving the BMW. The Jeep feels more like a luxury vehicle to me and the miles just seem to fly by. If I want to haul ass through the twisties, the 335 is the way to go, but for most every other driving situation, the Jeep is a much better fit for me. (maybe I'm getting old)

As an aside, I previously owned a 2007 X5, and the Jeep is far and away a better vehicle both from a ride and quality perspective and 4X4 capabilities. While the X5 was a better corner handler, the ride quality suffered. As a longtime BMW advocate (with 10+ previous BMW's), I am truly impressed with the Jeep GC.

I went from the Volvo V70R (0-60 in 5.7, adjustable suspension with the push of a button, etc), to the WK2 over the weekend. I'm liking the WK2 more every day! It really handles susprisingly well. There is VERY little body roll under normal driving conditions. And the more I drive it, the more I want to climb over sh!t!! I nearly stuck it into snow mode and drove up onto my own lawn today! I REALLY WANT TO GO 4-WHEELING NOW!!! :)

The construction is excellent. So solid and quiet and smooth - I can't believe it! I've owned high performance cars my entire life, and now at 40, I think I'm going to be happy with my first automatic, and my first SUV!

For would think for most the number of times you missed the speed and handling would be about equal to the number of times you're glad you had the extra cargo space or foul weather capability.

That being said my daily driver will always be a car. I love SUVs but even the best ones don't have the ride/handling ability of the best cars.

Previous fun car was a C6 Z06 Corvette. 505hp at only 3,000lbs. Pretty much stupid fast. Ordered my Overland yesterday and cant wait!!! Interior is unbelievable in those things! You wont miss your BMW! If your into performance make sure you get the Hemi. For those of us who like fast cars and nice sounding V8's I would say the Hemi is a MUST have as it will keep you much more entertained than the new available V6. Dont forget though this is a SUV it was not designed to perform like a sports car. So dont get one thinking its going to handle and accellerate like your BMW.

I went from a Porsche Boxster to an Overland. I love the space, the sound of my Hemi and the interior of the SUV. I do miss my Porsche (the handling and speed and take off were excellent) but I do like the ability to take off to ski any time I feel like it and I dont have to change the car with my wife to do it.

Thank you for the feedback. Very helpful. Enough reading and will have to go for a test drive. I'm such a sucker for new cars. If they offer me an Overland at invoice or better, I would have no choice but to buy it.

AWESOME!!!! Like mentioned test drive the Hemi Overland for best experience!! Also, one of the cool technology packages available is called adaptive warning/adaptive cruise control. You can tell if it has it by the round projector light looking thing in the middle of the lower grill on the front bumper, or by the extra switch on the steering wheel for the adaptive cruise feature. Just another cool feature that from the sounds of it you would appreciate. The panoramic sunroof also really adds to the interior which luckily is standard. If you want the overhead rear DVD then you get the small one.
As for price invoice or below is actually pretty easy to get. Most on these forums have been able to get the above equipped Overland for in the $41,xxx range plus tax title license.

My 535xi was prob the best performer in the snow ever. So once I get the WK2, (just over 3 months waiting now), I'll be in a position to see how it is.
The truly exceptional driving experience, craftsmanship of the bmw and technology is why you pay twice as much. Things like Heads Up Display, hill descent control, lane departure warning camera (steering wheel vibrates if you're out of the lane), will be missed for sure.

Had a 2001 330ci, a 2004 330ci and my wife is still in a 2004 325i (but looking at new ones, oh boy). :D
