Remote Start

Remoted started the Jeep today. Brushed the snow off it. Entered the vehicle and tried to turn on the front and rear windshield wipers. They didn't work.

I knew I had to push the start button before I could drive off. What I didn't know is that when you have started the vehicle with remote start you have to push the start button before the wipers will work.

yep.. i use remote start every morning and push the start button as soon as I get in the car. I think it was designed this way on purpose.. it'll start your engine and get power to certain electronics, but not all, until you actually hit the start button.

When you turn your car on with the remote start, the car is still off as far as the accessories go. The only thing that you can control is the heating/cooling controls.

Despite me knowing that, it still catches me occasionally.

^agreed, i fumbled through this as well first few times after remote start wondering why phone charger and whatnot wasn't working. 2k miles later, i'll still try to shift out of park after a remote start before pushing the start button again.

regardless, the extra security is great here. nice to know that you need the fob and to push the start button again to drive away after a remote start. also a solid safety feature if kids are running around remote started vehicle.

That is a good thing. If the wipers were frozen to the window you could do damage to the motors and if they did brake free and scrape across ice you could ware out a set of blades in a flash

Speaking of kids (and all family members for that matter)-- I instructed my family that if they EVER hear the Jeep honk while in the garage, to immediately go and check to see if it had remote started by mistake (someone playing with the fob or whatever). I had thoughts of that happening and filling up the garage w/carbon monoxide if the doors weren't up.

I don't see this as a flaw in any way shape of form, just something to be aware of. I don't think I'll ever have a need to do remote start to warm her up while she's in the garage because we don't get that cold here. And if I do I'll obviously put the door up first...unless my springs have snapped again.

Yay you got it figured out :jump:

If/when you WK2 owners get engine lights, remember that the remote start won't work while the vehicle is throwing a code. Clear the code and it resumes normal operation.

Thats a very good point. Imagine you remote start your Jeep on a cold snowy/icy morning and your wiper motors are trying to move wipers that are stuck. That would be bad news for the motors. Good thinkin Jeep :-)

Re: Remote Start

on another note, has anyone tried to use the remote start while the hazards are on? I had my WK2 parked in a loading zone and was using the hazards so I wouldn't get towed. I was about 40ft away and tried to remote start to no avail. anyone else have this experience?

The remote start will not work unless your doors are locked. I have never locked my vehicles when they are in my garage.

Negative. I only posted about this after proof of concept. Then after reading your note I tried it again to verify. In short, my WK2 will start remotely even from inside my house when it is unlocked in my garage.
