Blacked out emblems

Ok so there are threads that show you know how to paint the emblems while they are still on your Jeep, but this is a little how to on the best way i have found on actually removing the emblems and putting them on for a nice OEM look.

1. Tape off top, bottom and sides of emblems with painters tape. Mark off key spots where each letter should be placed so you have a nice template to work with when putting them back on.

2. Remove emblems with thin wire, ( E Guitar string, fishing wire, etc. )
3. Remove excess from Jeep & back of emblems. For the back of the emblems i used a bristle brush on my Dremel tool, took it right off. For the Jeep i used my fingers and some really good smelling chemicals.
note: This step crucial for having that OEM clean look. If the adhesive is not removed the emblems will stick out further than normal and it just does not look right. Take your time, its worth it.
4. Paint your emblems any color you desire. I used plasti dip... it yields a nice flat black and is quite durable... 2 or 3 coats is fine.

5. Once the paint dries go ahead and put some double sided sticky tape on the back. Make sure to use heavy duty tape, i used 3m that stuff works great.
note: when cutting the pieces of tape to fit the back of the emblems, be sure to not come close to the edges of the emblems with the tape otherwise when you stick them back on your Jeep the tape will be able to be seen from the side.

6. Use the template from step 1 to put the emblems back on... do this slowly and make sure everything is straight, i double checked certain spots with a leveler.
