Question(s): ordering overland

Hey all:

I decided to wait (for what seems like forever) to order my Overland - so that I could get the updated 730N radio.

I also wanted to get the saddle interior, since I was ordering it, and all...

After several conversations with the dealer, he has informed me that the updated 730N is not going to be available: and has suggested that I can get a vehicle already made from the inventory.

Here's what I want:
Overland
Mineral Grey
4x4
V8
Saddle interior
Off road adventure package
730N
Block heater

Here's what the dealer is suggesting:
Overland
Mineral Grey
4x4
V8
Saddle/black interior
Off road adventure package
430N
Block heater

2 questions:
1) I am assuming that the "saddle/black" interior is the saddle interior, but has black piping on it: is that the case?

2) How come every dealer does not know about the updated 730N (RHR) that is supposed to be available for order on 1/12? Is this now privilaged information at the dealership level?

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

Saddle/Black is the correct name for what we call the "saddle" interior.

Until vehicles are actually shipping with the 730N, don't count on it.

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

Looks like the only difference between the vehicle in inventory and the one you want is the nav system.

Which leads to the question- can you get the inventory vehicle at a bigger discount than the ordered one, and if so, is that enough to satisfy you? It's obvious the dealer wants to sell the one he has on the lot, and that could give more negotiating room than something you special order.

Basically, you'd end up missing out on a few nav features- dead reckoning, split screen nav/music info, and voice command of nav. You need to ask yourself what that's worth to you. From the get-go, all other things being equal, those features would cost $305. But since he's motivated to sell the stock one, all things are NOT equal, and you might be able to get it for a thousand or two less.

As for the ordering, it seems like it's a real mess as to exactly when it will show up in the system. If it shows up on Wednesday the 12th, then we'll know. Until that happens, we won't.

Sounds like he wants you to take what he has to move the unit. The dealership I am dealing with said that the 730N will be good to order again when I place my order in a few weeks.

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

Yes sounds like the dealer just wants to make a sale right now. Dont be surprised that dealers have no idea about an updated radio. Afterall, how would they know? They dont browse Jeep forums like we do all day and dig deep into the internet to find this kind of stuff out.

I would also like to add if you are 100% set on saddle interior then you MUST buy from a dealers stock. You can not order saddle interior anymore on a Overland. As of right now its no longer an option and no one knows if and when it will be available again on the Overland. Its available on the Overland Summit edition but then you get the saddle dash which a lot of people might not want.

So you need to determine whats more important to you. Special ordering a car for yourself with the new 730N but without saddle, or find a dealer stock somewhere with saddle and the 430N.

I decided to order one and ended up with the dk frost/lt beige interior which turns out im glad I did. Saddle is gorgeous but Beige grew on me after a lot of picture viewing and trips to the dealer. I placed my order back on the 4th but im going to call back wednesday to see if they can add the new 730N to my order. Hopefully that all works out or who knows maybe by the time mine gets built it will be standard in the Overland's or something.

Goodluck

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

I'd just take the one on the lot....you may be waiting 4+ months (waiting to order new 730N plus build times). There has been problems getting saddle in general and with the Summit production starting the saddle will be a bigger bottleneck. That is, if you are set on saddle.

I've debated about the nav system and either the 430N or the new 730N RHR is fine with me (RHR preferred though....maybe).

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

Thank you for the fast feedback. I do love this forum!

I am not in a rush to get this vehicle, but it is indeed time for me to update my ride: as I have a vehicle that is in working order... (albeit with 183k on the odo, and limping on cold days).

I am "stuck" on the saddle interior. I prefer the 730n. If I'm gonna drop 43k on a vehicle (once a decade) I am going to wait for the 730n for the remainder of this week, and then will place the order regardless. If by the end of the week, it is still not available - I am thinking that I will be able to "survive" with the 430n.

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

Sounds like a good plan! The other thing that caught my attention about the new 730N is it says better graphics and speed. Im hoping that this means better resolution because if it does thats a huge plus. I drove a newer Acura that had their new higher resolution nav screen (which almost looked HD) and it was beautiful compared to the standard screen in my 07 TL!

Hopefully like Milous says the new 730N will be in dealership computers wednesday so that I can tell them to put that on my order. Last I knew my order was still in "BA" status which is "pending order" and they said it can be added without a problem.
I will report back on wednesday to see what the dealer says.

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

I was told I would get the 730N RHR but instead got the 730N RER. The RER is an old model ('05-'10 I believe), is slower, and does not support Bluetooth streaming audio from the iPhone 4. If audio streaming is important to you, make sure the radio you get works right with your device. I believe the 430N supports streaming audio from the iPhone 4, but as mentioned above the 730N has more features.

Re: Question(s): ordering overland

If you're comfortable waiting 3-4 months then go ahead and order. In addition to waiting on the 730 rhr to be released you will also be waiting for the saddle interior, b/c the last I heard it was currently on restriction.

If the only difference is the nav package AND this is a model in that very rare color combo, I would be on that vehicle on his lot like a bum on a baloney sandwich. I say this as someone who has the 430n and is extremely happy with it--not just settling for it, but very pleased to have it. But it's a personal choice of course. For me, dead reckoning and voice nav input are nice-to-have but not need-to-have. And split screen music and nav?? Who gives. I can tell by listening what's playing on my stereo, ferpetesake.:D And it's easy enough to stab the "Hide NAV" button if I need to make an emergency change to the track playing from my Partridge Family Greatest Hits playlist.

All sarcasm aside, this would be an easy choice for me. Keep your fingers crossed that the Overland is still there if you decide to wait and the RHR still isn't available in a week.

One thing that concerns me about the RHR is whether it will be as slow to respond to voice input as the RER. I had a chance to demo both the RER and the RHB in a side by side comparison and the RHB (430n) was remarkably more responsive to voice commands. Good luck with your decision!
