430N and iPod resolution

I don't know how old my iPod is, at least a couple years - I couldn't get the 430N to read it. I was getting very frustrated, read a lot of entries here (I love this resource) - but couldn't get it to work. It would say "Reading" and the "Error" -" This device no longer supported" (I only picked up the Overland last night, spent a bunch of time this morning with the iPod without results.) Finally, I went to Itunes and loaded the latest iPod update - back to the Jeep and presto! read the whole library, voice commands working ("Play artist Mark Knopfler"; "play song The Overture to the Marriage of Figaro")- it has to read everytime I restart the car, but that read is brief, not like the first time it worked, and now it works great. Hope this helps out anyone having the same problems.

And just to verify, it is responding to voice commands when it is connected via the USB port in the center console?

I need to try this again with my iPhone. I made the decision early on to not use my phone for music while in the Jeep, but it's nice to know that I might be able to if I choose to. Thanks for the report.

I just went out and connected my iPhone4 to the 430n's center console USB port. I backed up my phone the other day via iTunes but I don't think it applied any iOS updates. The last time I tried playing tunes from this device from the center console I got the read error that's been reported here.

This time it worked just fine. I was able to call up artists or individual songs. It didn't even seem to spend any time on the read operation. I noticed that the beginnings of a few songs got a bit clipped and that the sound quality wasn't as pristine as playback from the HDD, but it was definitely serviceable. I need to try it with some of the kids' iPods next.

Connecting using my iPhone 3GS is still hit and miss.

Bozer-didn't see album art-but I don't think I have that much album art on my music library so I don't know if I would or should expect that anyway

It's great when it works, isn't it? try to update, but on the other hand, if it is working -- if it aint broke, don't fix it! Good luck!

I haven't worked with the BT streaming from the iPhone yet - first time I got the speeded up playback that others have reported - I like Pandora a lot and need to make that work - will work on that next and report back- would love to hear from others who have made the BT streaming work - my iPhone is 3GS also - have not yet tried the iPhone thru the usb console port using the iPod on the phone
so many options, so little time...
The iPhone works great as a phone thru the uconnect. I have my same music library on the iPhone as on the iPod, so it would be great to be able to just use the one device, the iPhone, for all my needs.....in the meantime, love the vehicle as a vehicle -drive, comfort, features, etc.

Hey guys, for what it's worth I just downloaded all my iTunes library to a flash drive and plugged it into the USB port. It took awhile, maybe 45 mins. but all the songs (about 1,900) downloaded to th HDD. I can sort them by artist, album or song . . . prttyy cool!

Steve, what if any filing process did you use to dump them from iTunes onto the flash drive? Did you organize them in any way or just go willy-nilly and let the 430n figure it all out?

Do you leave the car running for the whole upload? In park or what?
