95 zj tranny problems
alright so i bought a 95 laredo 4x4 with 150xxx miles and it ran fine for months. then all of a sudden my tranny started 'slipping' at 170xxx.

It seemed as if it was starting out in 2nd gear instead of 1st. other than that it drove like a champ.

I took it to a tranny shop and had them rebuild the tranny.
$1850.00 and 2 weeks later i got it back, drove it literally ONE BLOCK and it was back to 'slipping'

I took it back to the shop and they said the 'tcm' wasnt communicating with the ecm. they said the only way to fix it was to buy a new ecm. instead of paying $700 for the dealer, i found my own at a 'Kragen' for $500.

so now they've had it for 3 months, and ive put $2350.00 into it and they are saying it STILL isnt communicating with the 'tcm'. so again i found my own for $200, they put it in and according to them it STILL has the same problem.

So now im down just about $2600.00 and im contemplating on whether or not i should tie my mechanic to my bumper and see how fast i can go.

I just want an opinion on whether or not this sounds like a logical diagnosis.
because i believe if the tranny has been rebuilt, i have a new ecm, and a new tcm, then my truck should run great. right?

Re: 95 zj tranny problems
Wow three months? I would be furious and they are 0/3 on their diagnoses.

yeah, im considering taking them to court if they're not done by saturday. but i just wanted an opinion on whether or not their diagnosis can even be valid

Re: 95 zj tranny problems
tell them you're not paying for anything except what fixes it correctly.. they are the garage, and are supposed to know how to fix things, thats why they get to charge $150 an hour change a trans.... first of all i can only assume that you have the 242, 42RE, and 2xx tcase?? only because the 93-95 V8 ZJs DO NOT have transmission computers, its all in the PCM and only controls overdrive... i only write that to let you know if you do have a V8 and they are trying to get you to keep giving them money for a tcm, they are ripping you off.. as i've siad above, dont pay for anything, except w/e it was that fixed it. they are supposed to know what fixes it. and there is almost zero possibility that you've found 3 dead TCMs. they, in the first place, never go bad.

Check if the tranny oil is Red. if so they at least changed the oil. maybe they just put some Lucas tranny oil it with the change. O did you check oil before you had them rebuild tranny if they did so ? was it brown ? smell burned?

Re: 95 zj tranny problems
finally got it back about a week ago, runs pretty much good as new. it turned out to be some god damn plug that got burned somehow. thats why my computer werent 'communicating'.
