3m clear paint shield

I have seen a bunch of guys talk about this product. I am not familiar with it. Is it something you can easily do at home without having crappy results, or should I find a shop that does it. I'm fairly handy so if its not too complicated I should be able to do it. Just looking for some insight.

Thanks,
Jim

Please see this thread I started asking about a company called invisishield. There is a link also directly to 2011 grand Cherokee products. Its a do it yourself kit and from what I gather you can do it yourself without too much trouble. This is what I will be ordering soon for my Overland thats expected in the spring time.

I'm looking at this stuff too, are you going with their brand, or 3m?

Thats a good question I dont really know what the difference is. I suppose I could call and ask. I see the drop down menu where you can select theirs or 3M, but I dont see anything on the site explaining what the differences are. Doesnt seem like the price changes either when you select one or the other.

At the very least, I want to do the headlights. These clear covers on the front always get a sandblasted look over time.

I'm thinking about doing the front bumper kit and the lights. It looks like their bumper kit ends right in this seam, so it wouldnt be visible at all. Plus, this is the area that takes the vast majority of the hits.

I'm having a 3M clear bra put on my new GC in the morning. Have one on my 2006 GTO and really like it. I drive a LOT. I'll probably be leading the miles chart on here so I need it. The '07 Lexus IS350 I traded in looked sandblasted on the front after 90K highway miles.

You might try eBay also. I was looking yesterday and their are several precut 3M kits.
I'm def going to do one of them!

I am going the professional installation of 3M. I have on my 02 S200 and 09 Acura TL and have not any problems with the workmanship. I plan on getting it put on my Overland next week.

What did the shop charge you for the install? I can by a 3M kit off ebay for $180 (hood, bumper, mirrors, fenders)

Hood, bumper, fenders, and lights (not the chrome mirrors) is $650. From what I saw on my 2006 GTO install these are usually not simple kits to install and have look good. Lot of fitting and stretching and sometimes recut of the material. I'm also wary of the price I've seen on the pre-cut kits. From what I've seen this material isn't cheap and $180 sounds low. When the shop did my GTO they had to recut the front bumper piece and the owner later told me that they ended up losing money on my install due to that and they weren't sure they were going to keep doing them. The WK2 is being done at another shop.

I had one on my '06 GTO too. :D As soon as I got my G8 I had one installed as well. Still debating if it's worth it to put one on the jeep since it will be my wifes and will be her daily driver. She usually goes through cars about every 2-3 years anyways.
