hood strut

Found one on partsgeek.com for 20 bucks...anyone bought one of these? Do they last? Dealership wants to charge me 160... that's crazy. Anyone have a better place to buy one?

I get all my struts from Frank Irvine at Strutwise (http://www.strutwise.com/index.php). He'll make them any way you want pressure wise and also has them in stainless steel.

Got mine yesterday at Advanced Auto for pretty cheap...I don't remember how much. I got some munchies with it. First productive thing I've ever done "under the influence".

i have seen carnage caused by strutwise. search lxforums but i talked to him about a hood strut for the LOOK.

its very rare I prefer the stealer but IMO just buy one from the dealer for 20 bux. list price 18.20

Thats interesting I can actually post up a picture of the price for you guys if you want. My GF went in for an oil change and they give you a little booklet with items that need to be looked at...157 for a hood strut which probably includes labor probably but still thats rediculous!

Re: hood strut

i would call them out on that.

if you opened the hood and held it steady give me a small flat blade and i can remove it BLINDFOLDED in about 20 seconds. then still blindfolded hand me the new one and we can be completely done in about 2 minutes after we started.

and anyone that has done it can atest to that.

post it up; maybe they were talking about the rear hatch????

although at the ned of the day its what THE STEALER DOES; he STEALS.

when i bought my wk it had the little sticker next to the window 'dealer added' and it had wheel locks $200. Now the parts department sells them for 30 so they clearly had no problem asking 170 to install 4 lug nuts ???

Re: hood strut

it was probably for the rear hatch, i know those are a bit more expensive, but i didnt think by that much

Re: hood strut

Almost positive it was for thw front because it went in for an oil change so they had to pop open the hood which doesn't stay open
