T-case help

05 WK 5.7 nv245

The owner submerged the jeep (above lower door seals) for around an hour. After getting it out he drove it for no more then 100 miles and the t-case started popping, sounds like chain slipping under heavy load (going up hills) and turns. We drained the fluid and it was indeed milky/grayish, put new fluid in and still makes slipping/popping noise (constant noise now).

CV joint on drive shaft looks fine. No sign of tear or leaking from the boot.

video with audio so you can hear.

Thanks for any help.

Not familiar with this specific T-case. But what are you doing to start this sound? The car is still standing still. Is he going from 4 all time to 4-Lo? The sound looks like from teeth when changing the T-case gear. This T-case has a solenoid to change from 4 all time to 4-Lo, isnīt it?

All he is doing is putting it in reverse, drive doesn't do it unless you apply gas. With it in 4-lo it wont do it unless you place a heavy load on it. The case does infact have an electric solenoid.

Re: T-case help

I did read some articles on NV 247 T-case where popping sound was caused by slipping chain inside the T-case. But in those cases the chain was just stretched too much. Would not expect this when only some water entered the case. Are you sure that the 4 all time/ 4 lo switching solenoid is in the right position? Water ingress in there could maybe make it to fail. When you are completely sure that the noise is coming from the T-case and not any other component, then probably only opening it would show you more.

Thanks for the reply. The solenoid seems to be fine cause when we change from hi low and neutral you can hear it changing thru the gears.

I did the ole screw driver to the ear on the t-case and tranny and its def coming from the case. Opening it up is above my lvl so I believe he is just gonna get it to a shop today.

Thanks again for the reply.
