confused on new stereo and sub instal

Ok i have a completely stock jeep. It came with the boston acoustic speaker setup. I was able to pick up a kenwood kiv 700 stereo and a 12 inch sub with box and amp for 300 bucks and would like to instal. I went to best buy to buy the amp instal kit and the harness and the dash kit.

I found the dash kit and the amp instal kit but the salesman scared me when it comes to the harness. I found a simple harness for 21 bucks that was for chrysler jeep and dodge and it specifically says jeep 22-2007. HOWEVER, the guy said because my car has the boston acoustic package, i need a dif harness. he then brought out some weird harness with alot more wire that cost 130 bucks!!

tomorrow imma rip apart the dash and attempt to install the headunit with the cheaper harness that i bought regardless and see if it works...

is the salesman correct or am i correct? anyone have a link to the correct harness?

thanks in advance.

do you have any pics of the harness? and this harness is to adapt the our stock jeep harness to your new kenwood? if you post more detailed info I am sure somebody can help, maybe even me...but I need some more. What is 22-2007? model year or part #? I do know that the connection is def different if you have the BA system or not, so the sales guy could be right...

Sorry meant 2002-2006. That is the year of jeep the harness is for. I have a 2005. I can take a pic tomorrow. Sorry i don't know alot.

its all good bro, neither do I :). so 02-04 would include the previous model of the GC, and the 05-06 would include yours. this leads me to believe the harness you have will not work with the BA system, but that is purely a guess. it is pretty easy to take the dash apart to get behind there and take a look. check out wkjeeps.com for detailed info on our rides and diagrams on how to take her apart :) that website has helped me out a lot! let us know what you find out

You need the more expensive harness if you are keeping your factory amp and full range speaker and just adding a sub.

Or order this one:

Re: confused on new stereo and sub instal

If you DONT want to retain the use of the factory amp (meant to power all speakers not a sub), then you can use the cheaper harness and you will have to do some cutting to the factory wiring, it will not be plug and play. The 130 dollar harness would be plug and play with factory wiring.

Re: confused on new stereo and sub instal

This harness will actually bypass the factory amp and be plug and play with what you have. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207065...n-Adapter.html

1. Fctory wiring colors will not match the harness, you will need to find a wiring diagram or use some type of tester. 2. If and when you want to return to a stock setup, you will have to do everything all over again as opposed to just unplugging a harness.

So where exactly is the amp? I wanna make sure i have the boston package. If i decide to just use the cheap wire...what r the negatives?
