Based on the numerous replies to the exact same question it would seem the 430N doesn't download the phone book, it accesses it when you use the voice dial commands. Have you tried that?

Re: 430 n

That has definitely been my experience...paired my phone once, and every time I get in it pairs up automagically with no intervention by me. Then when I want to dial, I press the phone key on the head unit or the steering wheel and issue a voice command. If the phonebook is loading, it is happening w/o any fanfare or onscreen indication. This is with an iPhone4 running latest iOS.

Now for my question (and I spent a good hour looking for it before asking): Where the $@##$% is the user manual download for the 430n RHB navi functions? Is it really the same manual as the RBZ? I know I can call and order a hard copy but I would like the pdf.

The device is very intuitive to learn IMO but I am constantly discovering new stuff on it and want to study the navi manual now. For instance, I just noticed the breadcrumb feature...I dropped my daughter off at her friend's house and reversed my route (obviously) to get home. I noticed that the route was traced with a light blue line presumably since I had just traveled this route in the other direction. Pretty cool. I also noticed that if you press the upcoming turn button in the upper left corner of the screen, it reads the next turn info to you. But if you press the larger banner area at the top of the screen that shows what road you're on (or approaching), you get a more condensed list of upcoming turns w/no audio (my preference because I can then scan and absorb the whole route). TIA.

Here's the direct link to the .pdf, it does have a decent Navi section, about as good as what you get with a Garmin.

http://www.jeep.com/download/pdf/man...RBZ-OM-1st.pdf

The cover page states: MEDIA CENTER 430N (RBZ/RHB)

It's a pretty simple process and I recommend you download and consult the WK2 iPhone app for specifics.

Make sure your iPhone is on with Bluetooth enabled (sorry, not leaving anything to chance!) ;) To save time for the later steps, leave your phone on its Bluetooth setup screen (Settings > General > Bluetooth)

Press the 430n's phone hard button, then say "Uconnect setup, phone pairing, pair a phone" (it is possible to string together commands but if you want to go old school, wait for the prompts and say the 3 commands one at a time. You can also say a command then press the phone button to put the system in listening mode for the next command).

Follow the prompts, which will include speaking a 4-digit PIN (make one up, it is not a security issue and you will only need to enter it into your phone once during pairing). You will also have to speak a name for your phone ("Frank TJ's iPhone") and assign it a priority. Most people will want to assign priority 1. I chose 2 for mine because I wanted to make sure that if I chose to use my BT earbud for a more personal conversation, the 430n would not try to grab the call. If my BT earbud is turned off, then the 430n gets the connection by default.

Uconnect will ask you to enter that same PIN into your phone. Go to Settings > General > Bluetooth on the iPhone and it should show the 430n listed as either "UConnect" or possibly "Handsfree". Press the appropriate device name and you should get the screen for entering in the PIN you came up with earlier, then click the Done or Connect button (can't recall which it is, sorry). You should then hear the 430n saying "pairing complete".

Let me know how this works for you.

I followed the exact procedure you listed for both my I phone and Shannon's Android based phone. Hers works fine but the I phone 4 would not connect. Guess I will try again.

Are you making it through all the steps and then being told "Pairing Failed", or are you not able to get past a certain step? Any other symptoms you can report will help in diagnosis.

Sometimes it also helps to go into the iPhone's BT screen and delete all devices and start over, or at least delete all occurrences of "UConnect" or "Handsfree". For some reason the 430n (or the iPhone) can generate multiple profiles. You might try cleaning out these profiles and then turning BT on/off and also rebooting the phone.

Sorry you're having troubles; it shouldn't be this tedious I'll grant you that. Once you get connected it should be effortless after that.

I get all the way through then it says "pairing failed". Will try again tonight.

That happened to me also at first, which prompted me to burn it all down (delete profiles on phone, reboot phone, toggle BT on phone) and start over. Good luck and please report back later.

Ok. Some level of success tonight. I was able to pair the phone with the 430N. No text messages or phonebook download though. Making progress.
