Look what I built today
Well since I knew that I wouldn't have the cash for a BWOODY when they come out for the 4.7, I decided to make my closest imitation of one. Total parts cost was about 60 bucks, and a couple hours of labor. I know it looks kind of rough right now, but once i take it all apart and paint it, i think it will look pretty decent. Seat of the pants tells me it makes a difference.

At first i was a little worried that i was hurting performance, you see I bought the parts from home depot, but didn't want to shell out the 30 bucks for a cone filter until i knew i could make it work, so i had to duct tape a piece of foam on the end of the pipe for the 3 mile drive to advance autoparts. It ran like straight dog shit, I thought damn this sucks. Well i was tooling along when i heard a little pop from the engine and it came to life like a bat out of hell. When i got home , the foam had ripped in half, thankgod the thing didn't get sucked all the way up the tube! The duct tape was holding on to it for dear life. Anyways, here's some pics.

Re: Look what I built today
Thanks guys, HUGE difference in sound. Seems to pull harder, although that maybe a by product of a more performance note coming from under the hood. It's only been on for about 1 hour so far, so i don't know about mpg's. I'll do some more testing in days to come.

I can't paint it right now, it's about to T-storm, and i don't own a garage. Plus my brain hurts from getting all the angles and pieces to fit right.

Re: Look what I built today
What kind of tubing is that?

mzh29 08-01-2009 02:40 PM

Re: Look what I built today
3 inch pvc, i probably could have gone with 4 inch, but the way the angle of the hood sloped downwards, i was afraid it wouldn't fit.

I didn't want it to scream home made, so i cut the ends off the elbows to make the tube the same diameter on the outside.

Re: Look what I built today
Thanks Bubba, I know it's lookin pretty getto, especially if you look on the under side of the pipe and see all the specs for charlotte pipe 3" pvc and what not. Next weekend I'll strip it back down sand it and paint it, make it look better. I need to get one or two brackets on it just to be safe.

I just took a quick spin around the block with my superchips hooked up.

Outdoor temp was 87 degrees. As soon as i started the engine my IAT was 132, now i'm sure that's because i just got back from the store about an hour ago and it was sitting in the sun. By the time i got to the end of my neighborhood my IAT dropped to 102.

Now here's the thing, when i would sit at a stop light the IAT would creep up to about 105 degrees. But, from a dead stand still, if i would mash the gas, the temp would drop almost instantly down to 94 degrees. Now that's before I even get to 20 mph. The lowest the temp dropped was to 91 degrees, that was WOT at 55 mph.

I'd say it was money and an afternoon well spent.
