Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I just bought a 2003 Grand Cherokee Overland. I want am trying to replace the shocks, but I can't get the top nut off the shock. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

PB Blaster and let it sit for awhile. Then get a breaker bar and use that. If that doesn't work, get a cheater bar to put on the breaker bar.

You can try using a socket one size down from the bolt and hammer it onto the bolt. I had to do that to get the top caliper mounting bolts off and a breaker bar and an extension:rolleyes:

when i did them on my old WJ i had to use air on them all. i also had to hold the post on the front ones with channel locks while using the air

I had the same problem on mine. When holding the allen head and trying to turn the nut, the whole allen head broke off. In no way i was able to hold the pistonrod from turning. Luckily this shocks had plastic dust covers and i could cut them away. Then i welded a metal piece to the pistonrod to keep the rod from turning.

I ended up using my dremel tool to rough up a spot so I could hold the piston while I used a socket on the top nut. Thanks for the ideas!
