climate control randomly changing
first off i want to say Hey all! im new to this forum and figured my first post would be a question i cant seem to figure out on my own.

my climate control will randomly change from whatever it is set on to the defroster. ive done some searching and it doesnt seem like anyone has had this exact problem. anyone have any ideas? ive taken the entire unit apart to make sure nothing is stuck and everything seems to be in good working order. just not sure why it will randomly change to defrost.

to make things more strange if i put the speed to low it will go back to the original setting. anything above low it will just change to defrost.

Re: climate control randomly changing
I presume you have the manual airconditioning system? The defrost position is the failback position when vacuum is lost. The manual system is using vacuum on all exept the temperature control actuator. I would check the vacuum lines from the engine inlet up to the firewall to check for chaving or other damage. The problem also could be in the switch, so if looking under the hood didn't reveil anything, i would remove the mode control vacuum switch and see the lines behind there. I can imagine that when the vacuum is weak due to a chaved line, that the vacuum actuator has less force to keep the mode door in the requird position.

Re: climate control randomly changing
ok so problem solved. turns out my jeep was not properly grounded. the bolt the tightens the negative connection to the terminal had rusted and broke in half so the connection was not tight. fixed that and solved a slew of other problems that had been bothering me. anyways back on topic...

i took out the box with the dials for the climate control out of the dash and examined everything. turns out there is about 5 or 6 different colored hoses. the springs weren't in place causing a bad connection of hoses and the dial would slip. put everything back into place properly and like new once again! happy days!
