30k Service Question

Just rolled over the 30k mark and I am looking to get schedule service done.

My local five star dealer offers the below services.

30k Mile Service – $499.95
  • Oil and filter change (additional charge for Hemi)
  • Perform transmission flush
  • Perform coolant flush
  • Replace air filter
  • Add fuel additive
  • Set tire pressure
  • 23 point inspection
  • Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches
  • Top off bay fluids & washer fluid
  • Rotate and balance tires
  • Perform charging system analysis and battery service
  • Inspect spark plugs (replacement additional)
  • Perform emergency brake inspection and adjustment
  • PCV Value inspection (replacement additional)
30k Mile Service Additions for 4x4 and AWD Vehicles – $289.95
  • Perform front differential service
  • Perform rear differential service
  • Perform transfer case service
Total price is around $800. Comparing the above against the recommended maintenance schedule (from WKJeeps.com) there appears to be unnecessary and/or early service work.

Does it make sense to just have spark plugs replaced and then get the 4x4 service?

Re: 30k Service Question

if you are able to turn a wrench you can go almost all of that easily in a day.
these numbers are based on a 4.7 because i dont know what you have.......
mobil 1 oil- 24.00 walmart
mopar filter - 5.25 walmart
transmission isnt due until 60k miles
coolant isnt due until 75k miles
air filter - 18.50 dealer
spark plugs - $1.79 each at advance auto
pcv valve - $4.99 at autozone
f&r differential fluid - 18.99x4=75.96 at advance auto
transfer case fluid - $12.00 dealer
use code BIG40 at advance auto to save $40 off purchase

so you can do it yourself for $115.02 and it is all easy stuff to do.
here are the instructions.......

Re: 30k Service Question

Yeah, as Svenskajeepguy has said, kinda need to know what drivetrain you have.
The oil change, sparkplug change, transfer case and differential fluid changes are required at 30k miles. Coolant and transmission flushes are not (at least on mine). That estimate seems seriously padded. I would go somehere else.

And check your owner's manual. It will tell you what needs to be done.

Re: 30k Service Question

Nope. Fluid flushes are never required and in fact can do damage. Just drain and refill. This comes from a Chrysler TSB.

Oh...and you can change the transmission fluid every 30k if you want. It's not a bad idea.

Re: 30k Service Question

I've got the Hemi with QDII.

I have done some basic maintenance in the past, however due to the weather and snow on the ground (with more snow on the way) I wouldn’t have any place to do the work for at least a month or two.

On my prior truck (97 Explorer) I regularly changed my own oil, replaced the brakes pads and rotors several times; nothing really beyond that. My father and I attempted to change the spark plugs and wires but were not able to physically access 1 or 2 of the plug locations and had to have a mechanic finish the job. I wouldn't want to start a spark plug job on the Jeep and have a similar thing happen (especially with twice as many plugs).

I've got Max Care for 7 yrs/85k and would not want to do anything to compromise that.

Re: 30k Service Question

then you can easily buy all of the required stuff and have a local mechanic do it for labor only. it will be alot cheaper than way and either way will not alter your warranty as long as you keep the records.

Re: 30k Service Question

yeah make sure you keep your receipts from your purchases for warranty
