Australian release - behind the scenes!

The remote Australian state of Tasmania hosted the official pre-release of the WK2 over the weekend.
Funnily enough, I was actually down in that state attending a motor sport event, albeit at the opposite end of the state

A mate of mine was one of the attending support crew, and I attach his photos and blurb here for you :) - evidently he doesn't know how well informed I am thanks to Jeep Garage :D

What differences can you guys spot?????? :D

Photos from 2 day Official release to the media for latest Jeep Cherokee to go on sale next month. All media personnel flown onto Launceston by private Jet ($2000 a seat). All vehicles looked smick for start of day, but not so clean by the end. Had plenty of work to do to get them up to presentation for the next day, 5.00am starts both days. Enjoyed the event, really impressed with the car and its features, especially performs well off road, and is expected to be voted 4WD of the year. Journalists were very impressed, so should get a good write up in the magazines. Well worth a look if you're considering a change, diesel model out late March or April, and made by a company associated with Caterpillar in Europe. Car is built on a Mercedes platform and is very European in appearance and quality, should sell very well for the price.

Those pictures of the downhill are outstanding! Need to send one of those to any bonehead who compares the Ford Explorer (or other Minivan replacements) to the JGC.

I love how they test the non-trail rated versions with the 20'' rims. I knew they were just as capable. The bigger rims were too nice to pass up when ordering and I didn't want to sacrifice the sharpness (cool) factor of the Jeep. The new WK2 20'' rims better suit the vehicle especially with QL lifted to its max. It just looks bold and tough! I'm so glad I didn't go with the ORAII package because of the 18'' rim only option. However, I still will install the front tow hooks to increase my capability off the road or if someone needs a hand or should I say tow.

lol, Bonza too! :p

My bet is that Australia won't be offered the breadth and range of options the US is due to our distance from the factory and relatively small volumes.

WK was released with QTII on Laredo and QDII on Limited, no Overland spec. My hope is that there will be an Overland available this time around with 20" wheels and full off-road spec.

Well first off, you'll want to add the skid plates. Also the ORA II package changes the tire to a more off-road capable model.

There's a very good reason for the 18" wheels. When you start crawling over pointy rocks, you need to drop the air pressure in the tires a lot. (Trust me, I learned the hard way.) The higher sidewall of the 18" results in more interior volume of the tire and more "squishability" for lack of a better word.

As cool as those pics are, you'll notice they are going down dirt and not really rock crawling.

body colored mirrors, vertical slat grill inserts, seem to recall that the lower rear red lenses are rear fogs as well?

for some reason mine didn't come with a jet either

Noticed mudflaps in most of the photos, which I thought was interesting for an off-road event (seems like they'd get torn off in some situations).

Glad to see you guys are getting your ration of WK2's, Marlin!
