Front license plate was drilled in by dealership??? How is yours installed?

I just received my 2nd set of temporary tags since my permanent tags have not arrived yet. Yesterday when I was removing the front license plate I noticed that the dealership drilled directly into my from bumper with screws. I am curious if this is how everyone front license plate is held in? I am aware that not every state requires a front license plate but here in Hawaii we need to have both. I think it sucks that the dealership just screwed in 2 screws to my front bumper without anything else there. I feel like over time it will not hold up, and will eventually ruin some of my front bumper.

Does anyone have a better solution to just bolting in 2 screws to the front bumper. I am also wondering how people have the front license plate held in?

This appears to be the accepted method to affix a front plate ...o yea there is a front plate bracket to mount a plate ,the dealer has to put that code in when ordering...heres the catch, that too is also drill and screwed into the front bumper so go figure.....pattyboy

Thanks for your reply. Does your GC have the license plate bracket? If not did you have to ask your dealership for it.

I found a guy that installed a front license plate on his Evo, although I don't care much for Evo's this guy probably doesn't have 2 holes in his front bumper.

Has anyone tried something like this on their GC?

Mine has the bracket, and yes, it was just screwed on there.

It will hold. The amount of force applied to the plate is tiny.

When i recieved my new Jeep from dealership, they had put their dealer frame and plastic 'free advertising' on the front of my GC. Normally no big deal, but I come from a state where NO front plate is required. So much to my shagrin, I 'had' to adapt and overcome just because somebody felt the need to put two holes (w/ no bracket) in my front bumper cover. I wasn't happy, but have made the best of it.

Chrsyler has a code for the front license plate bracket (Sales Code MDA), and it appears on at least some WK2 build sheets (either from window stickers or Milous info), BUT to the best of my knowledge no such bracket has been seen. There is a code, but people who have asked Chrysler about it have been told a front plate bracket doesn't exist. In another post I have dubbed this the bracket that lives in the enchanted forest with the unicorns. Who knows?

My vehicle came with the code, but no bracket. My dealer played dumb about it. Plates were just screwed into the front polyurethane bumper before I had a chance to gripe. I replaced the screws with a different stainless steel type and put a frame around the plate for added durability. I hope it lasts.

No bracket on mine, just drilled two holes directly in bumper. When I got my Lexus, they didn't install front plate till the actual plates came in and I told them I would do it myself (which of course I didn't b/c i don't like the look with front plate). The Jeep dealer had already drilled the holes when I picked up my WK2.

yeah, the frikin dealer had a bracket for mine (2007) and used self tapping screws to screw it into my bumper. When I took the bracket off to clean it up, there were plastic shavings and the holes looked all jagged. Figures.

Seriously!?!?! Saw this thread and went to check my plate..... screw holes through the bumper. I live in CA so front plates are required... but.....
So now there are two holes in my front bumper. how awesome is that? Has no one heard of magnets? Probably expensive for the manufacturer to do, but at least don't drill through a perfectly good bumper!

Yeah I live here in CT and have dealt with a Cadillac dealership who asked if i wanted them to put on the front license plate (a CTS-V) we said no would've really ruined the front of that car, an Audi dealership who asked if we wanted it installed as well - also said no - but lo and behold the Jeep dealership hammers one right in there with a pair of screws thanks for coming out - it is a law in CT to have a front marker but we've ran 6 cars in 10 years in my family without them and never once received a ticket - this is my first car now with one - just wish it was done a different way

Re: Front license plate was drilled in by dealership??? How is yours installed?

My Audi I traded in (2008 A4) had an actual bracket for the front plate. There were 3 different types of front fascia filler.
1) US plate spec to hold front license plate
2) Euro spec plate holder
3) No plate, just smooth plastic (couple different options) that went with the grill.

I'm too lazy to post pics... but anyway, Audi at least acknowledged people like the front of their cars to look clean and they also know that there are laws for plate requirements.
In CA the plate is required so my Audi was "required" to be equipped with the US plate standard. But it is easily switched to the no plate version.

Come on Chrysler..... trying to make it into a "Luxury" vehicle.... close.
