Groaning

Hi Guys

I have had my WJ now for a few days and I noticed today when nearly on full lock it groaned as it moved forward, it doesn't sound too good. i have also noticed that the steering feels a bit vague every so often when on the road.

It this serious or is it just general wear and tear in the bushings?

Possibly your track rod ends. Does the steering wheel sit straight?

barney9304 02-04-2011 09:27 AM

Wheel sits straight but just listening to it the sounds appears to be coming from the rear?

The steering in the WJ is indeed a bit vague, at least it always was on mine. It seems to be a bit more lateley and i saw that the rubber bushings from the front upper control arms to the axle are worn.
Do you mean with almost full lock that the steering is at the full angel? Its normal at least that the power steering pump will make a starnge noise when you are at the full steering angle both ways.

No not at full lock, half lock really does it as well. I just need to have an idea of how serious if at all this is before I ring the guy who I got it from.

Re: Groaning

But does it come from the power steering pump, or from the rear of the car, as you where mentioning before?

barney9304 02-04-2011 10:04 AM

I thought it was the front but listening to it again it's coming from the rear as I sit in the car

Re: Groaning

Do you have the service history of the car? There are ofcourse many things which can start making noises, but if for example the regular maintenance was not done, i would start with changing the T-case fluid and diff oil and see if there are any signs of wear particles in the oil.
What kind of Jeep you have, Quadra Trac, Quadra Drive?

barney9304 02-04-2011 10:23 AM

It has had a new TCase on and the resulting fluid. I only noticed the sound today while backing out the drive, I was not on full lock and the noise is coming from the rear
