New Baby is Home!

Just picked up our Overland Thursday evening. Called our salesperson in the morning based on Milous awesome tracking thread that showed it left Selkirk rail yard (near Albany, NY) Wednesday morning. She said it arrived at the dealership (in northwest Vermont) Wednesday evening (she was impressed I knew where it was with such detail).

Although it was around sunset when we got it from the prep guys, it looks every bit as gorgeous as we expected (Dark Charcoal, New Saddle interior). They said it was their first received with saddle(!), though they show 99 units in inventory. We are in the very middle of Winter here... lots of snow on the ground, about 20F this evening... so pix when we get some sunlight!

Had 3 miles on the odometer when we took ownership... our salesperson said another prospective customer wanted to see the New Saddle color, and they called him in to see ours, but (very appropriately) didn't let him drive it. She said he ordered one on the spot!

Some quick first impressions driving home:

- Wow!!!
- This is by far the most luxurious of our four GCs, by an order of magnitude
- As expected, in dim light the Dark Charcoal is nearly black
- The polished 18s look stunning; came shod with Michelin OWL Latitudes
- Hemi is much quieter than expected (based on recollection from test drive)
- Feels much larger than our WJ on the road
- Head/fog lights are amazing for color/brightness
- As noted during test drive, steering ratio feels much slower than WJ... not bad, just different
- Steering wheel is really fat (in a good way!)... electric adjustment, especially telescope, very nice
- Seats definitely have a euro-super-firm feeling, but very comfortable
- Mirrors seem huge (compared to WJ)
- LOL: big snowbanks leaving dealer lot triggered side blind spot warning when I signaled for a right turn
- 430N Nav is of course like our Garmin portable, scaled up display is a little fuzzy but not an issue
- Driving over familiar frost heaves, ride is much more compliant than WJ's beam front axle, without the characteristic roll/yaw motion... feels strange (in a good way!)
- Every single control I can think of other than the brake pedal is different from the WJ... it is truly a completely different vehicle, not an evolution
- Just, you know, Wow!!!

More as we explore in the days to come...

Congrats on your delivery!!! I just received a call from my dealer tonight that my Mineral Gray/Saddle Hemi/Pano/20s from early Nov order is ready for me at 3pm tomorrow....so I can't wait to share my own impressions too!!!

Really happy for your new JGC!! I haven't ever been so excited for delivery of a new car because although this is my 3rd JGC, I have never ordered a completely redesigned model that is entirely new in every way. Enjoy and please post some pics immediately!

Here are a couple of pics, trying to show the body color juxtaposed with the saddle leather. Day started out very overcast (hey, it's Vermont in the winter... what do you expect), but when we got a bit of sun, I pulled into an inn parking lot to snap a couple pics (oh, yeah...we have snow here).

JTS posted some much better pics of the interior itself:
http://www.jeepgarage.org/f110/some-new-pictures-of-saddle-interior-18720.html

but I was trying to show the Dark Charcoal and saddle at the same time. I will say that both the exterior and interior colors look great to me (of course), but do change dramatically with the light level.

Definitely need to add license plate brackets... that bolting to the front fascia is just lame.

Mirrors are small compared to my LR Defender or Mercedes Vito ;-).
