Front bumper cover removal
Hey guys...I want to pull the headlight housings out (for a mod) and I need to get the front bumper cover off first.

Anyone take the front bumper cover off yet or know how to do it otherwise? I can figure it out, but if someone knows the process, it would speed things up greatly and keep me from having to poke and pry and risk popping clips.

Thanks in advance!

WK2. I searched and didn't find anything. You're taking the bumper off your WK2 tomorrow? If so...PLEASE take pics! I need to do it asap.

Re: Front bumper cover removal
are the fender liners held on with plastic rivets?

Re: Front bumper cover removal
From initial inspection:

- There is a 10MM screw/bolt in the upper-most corner of the bumper cover, in each wheel well, where the tip of the bumper cover meets the edge of the fender.

- The plastic fender "flare" extends into the bumper cover, where it is secured by non-reusable plastic rivets. The rest of the fender flare is fastened to the fender via push-in snaps. These are heavy duty snaps and in my professional experience, they often break when pulling them out.

- The grille is attached to the top of the bumper cover via tabs. The tabs are not accessible. The grille comes off with the bumper. The top of the grille snaps (very snugly) via 4 clips into the top of the radiator support.

- The bottom rear of the bumper cover is attached to the lower splash shield/engine cover via plastic push-pin 2-peice (reusable) expansion clips.

- It *appears* there are bumper cover retainers just under the headlights that grab the lip of the bumper cover.

How I *think* this needs to happen:

- The 10MM screws (1 on each side) need to be removed.

- The grille needs to be popped up off the radiator support

- Release the lower splash shield from the bumper

- Once the fender liners are removed, you should be able to get a better idea of the any more bumper cover mounting points.

- The fog lights get disconnected

- If there are no other mounting points, the bumper gets popped forward to release the grasp of the upper retainers and slides free.

HOPEFULLY that does it. Just be very careful. I haven't taken the bumper off yet so I don't know if there are any other mounting points. I'm going to poke around it again tomorrow to see what else I can come up with.

From there, the headlight housings are secured to the radiator support via at least 3 10MM bolts, one on top and 2 underneath. Once the wiring is disconnected from the light housings, the housings should come free.

Re: Front bumper cover removal
heres the grill...front and back.
I dont see anywhere on the bottom for any kind of retainer clip/fastener. Its looks to be similar to the WK. The WK's grill on the bottom...snaps into the bumper support bracket.

Re: Front bumper cover removal
cool, thanks scott. What are you doing with that grille? where you able to remove/install it without removing the front bumper cover? Or is that a spare or something?
