The light assemblies perform the test only when the vehicle is started, not on light activation. If you start the car you should see the lenses perform the self test with or without the lights being on.

Re: automatic headlight leveling- hid's
^^^ That is correct. Infact if you watch your actual headlight assemblies just after starting you will see them cycle up and down even during bright daylight. So, be sure that your not just thinking they do it anytime you turn on your headlights because they actually do the self test when you first start your car (day or night). If they still dont do it then yes there is a problem. If however the autolevel function does stop working I would imagine they would leave the headlight in the standard height so I dont think they would be all out of whack even if that stopped working.

As far as if they are aimed correctly or not what I recommend doing is when driving at night view where your cutoff line is in relation to other cars. If you see the light beam hitting peoples eyes or their mirrors then they are too high. It is very critical that HID projectors are aimed perfectly because if they arent they are extremely bright below the cutoff line.

Re: automatic headlight leveling- hid's
there is a STANDARD for projectors. in the US its 2 inches below the cut-off line at 25 feet.

meaning. you pull it up to a wall and mark the center of the projector. then go down 2 inches from that and make a horizontal line. back the rig up so the Headlight is 25 feet from the wall. adjust cut off to that line.
