Bubbles in coolant

My 99 4.7l, V8 was over temping, there was oil and coolant.

But then it wouldn't stay running, then it wouldnt turn over.

Today, i put more coolant in. kept the cap off, she started first time, but the coolant was bubbling.

I didn't drive anywhere.

I was told the bubbles is not a good sign, any ideas?

Is the whole thing worth repairing?

thanks

Re: Bubles

As told before, the heads will warp and the head gaskets start leaking when you overheat the engine. You can get cooling liquid in the oil or combustion air in the cooling liquid. This last case is most probably what you are seeing, the bubbles coming out of the radiator is combustion air which passes the headgasket at some place. Is your check engine light on? You could check for fault codes to see if it gives any idea about which cylinder(s) the problem has. You can see the fault codes by turning ignition key on/off 3 times and leave it in on after the last turn.
That the engine doesn´t want to turn over, is probably caused by cooling liquid in one of the cylinders, causing a hydraulic lock.

Is your exhaust white like thick fog?

Bubbles are not a good sign. As mentioned, you probably have a damaged head gasket and it will not be a cheap fix. On top of that, you have to take care of the coolant leak and / or overtemp situation that started this whole thing.

Whether it's worth fixing or not is up to you. If the car is a basket case, you may be better off finding someone, anyone, to take it off your hands. In its current state it's not worth anything so you would basically be walking away. If it's in good shape, it would be worth it to have it fixed as it will be cheaper than buying a troublefree vehicle and you could sell it for market value down the line.

Are you trying to say that you have oil in your coolant? Blown head gasket and your lucky if it's not a cracked head.
