Re: cold air part two
A power wire is a resistor that goes in series with the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT). It's purpose is to "trick" the PCM into thinking the intake air temp. is cooler than it really is, and thereby (hopefully) add a little more timing. Years ago, on my Hemi LX, I built an adjustable resistor so I could set it to any temp. that I wanted. In the long run I don't think it helps much, if at all. I still have it on the LX and still use it though. I haven't added one to the WK, as it's IAT runs right at ambient on the highway. In town, it will always run hotter than ambient, due to engine heat and lack of adequate airflow through the intake at low speeds. Also, the IAT sensor for the WK is mounted close to the airbox and the one on the LX's is right next to the throttle body. On the LX the IAT picks up ~5-7 degrees (on the highway) between the airbox and the throttle body. I am sure that the WK does the same, and maybe that's why they moved it closer to the airbox. So, maybe there's something to it. If you can do it for cheap, it sure doesn't hurt anything. It's been on my LX for about 5 years now.
