Quality

I've driven 3 new laredo x v6 back to back for two months had a time and i've found that Chrysler still suffers from quality issues and assembly problems. 1) paint on two of the trucks wich were black had watermarks between the paint and the clear the third truck was white i didn't see any water marks but paint runs here and there.2) 2 rear hatches improperly adjusted caused paint scrappes with the rear bumper that's from two different trucks.3)in one truck i had the rear passenger capri leather looked all crumpled it didn't even match the rest of the interior. Finally the hardest one to swollow all 3 trucks have had small cracks in the windshields from small and i mean small stones hitting the windshield when driving it's almost like the Iphone4 designed so they can make more money with replacement windshields.Hundreds of millions spent by Chrysler to bring us this!:(

Re: Quality

Im not denying your found issues here but this is the first time I have heard of any of these and I read the forums multiple times daily. Not a single person here has reported misaligned hatch, cracked windshield issues, or paint problems. I mean, has anyone else ever heard of similar problems on brand new vehicles?!?! I dont have my Overland yet but I have driven and inspected many over the months and I have a fine eye for detail. Never noticed anything like the above mentioned.

I could def understand your opinion if you've personally seen it in 3 vehicles! As JTS^ said, havent seen those issues really at all on this site from actual owners. Ive had mine since late september and havent had those physical problems at all.

Like you guys i had never read about the windshield problems before, although the paint thing is documented and i think i even read something like that on this very site, the hatch thing never before as well and it's the first year of production but to me and all the people that spent their hard earned money i think we deserve better. On the bright side i've put roughly 15k miles combined on 3 trucks and i've yet to experience any engine shutter like others have reported. Time will tell as what problems are recurring.sorry about the rant but i was holding out waiting for the new 2012 srt8 and now i'm worried about what's inside the shinny box if you get what i mean.

Shudder seem to be specific to WK2 with HEMI.

Re: Quality

I think some reality needs to brought into this discussion. I did a quick search and there are not any wide spread reports of paint issues on the WK2's and even here, where I suspect is the largest concentration of WK2 owners in one place on the net, there's only a few reports of paint issues and mostly in the earlier builds on the "new" custom colors. Honestly, I see the same reports on most car forums and based on the frequency of reports here I don't see Jeep being any worse than all the rest and that includes foreign makes.

The windshield thing, that has nothing to do with Jeep and again, there's nothing widespread out there. The glass is manufactured by a company that I'm positive supplies most, if not all the US manufacturers including the foreign assembly plants. It's specified to meet or exceed all DOT standards which include chip and crack resistance. I don't think this belongs in a "Quality" discussion.

The Shudder issue is well documented but I'm glad you don't have it in your 2010.

Perhaps we sent the rejects up to Canada and are keeping the best for ourselves  (you know I'm only joking.....)

I was corrected on that in another thread. Apparently the shudder is a long standing issue that has effected 5.7 Hemi + 545 transmission combinations in all Chrysler products for years.

Thank you for correcting me about the shudder issue,The paint thing was on my 2010 srt8 and on the 2011 wk2's,two completely different models, as a matter of fact two dealers in my area received other jeeps patriot and liberty included with the same problems,it was a big enough problem that Chrysler authorised a repaint for these vehicules, that the windshield is made by another co for chrysler and that they probably supply other brands does not excuse chrysler.let's say they we're from a bad batch.

Re: Quality

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder. I looked at dozens, possibly hundreds of WK2's in dealer lots over the course of the last few months and the paint quality has not seemed to be an issue. Not as an excuse but dealer repaints due to factory flaws is not the exclusive property of Chrysler, it happens to ALL makes. I think we all know that the paint and body shop was completely redesigned and modernized in the plant making the WK2 and it's completely different than the paint shops painting those other vehicles you mentioned. Pretty hard to draw a conclusion that it's a systemic problem.

As for the windshield issue, is it a real issue or just something you observed at 1 dealership in Canada? Sounds like maybe the freight hauler would me more to blame if these are new vehicles sitting on the lot. Nothing has popped up here indicating this is an issue on the WK2 and I suspect that if it had there would be multiple threads.

I'm just saying that I haven't seen these quality issues on the dozens of WK2's I've looked at. That observation is just a valid as yours.

The windshield problem I've noticed are on the WK2's they all came from Avis Canada rental co.The paint problems are the same as last year and i saw them in two different dealers and not only with the grand cherokee....the problem would not be obvious upon PDI but would take a few weeks to show up some even a couple of months.Enjoy your jeep and hopefullty you won't ever have any problems.

Paint seems to be an issue on these. I had water marks that were buffed out of mine. Plus trash under the paint on 2 out of the three doors.
