Have you looked under your hood?

I searched but have not seen any talk about this, so wanted to get others feed back. I saw a post on another Jeep community forum and it appears there may be many people affected by this? I used pics from the other site to show what they are talking about.
It seems Jeep factory is putting the V-8 belly pan, which has an open hole for oil filter replacement access (left pic) on the V-6s (which do not require the hole). One V-6 owner did not have the hole and stated it was all one piece, and not a cover? (right pic) Others have looked at the parts manual, and it appears there is no part number or anything for this, but it may be the whole belly pan?
My concern is for V-6 owners, this unnecessarily leaves a big area for dirt/grim to get up into the engine compartment. Does anyone else know about this, dealt with it, or had a resolution to the issue yet?

Some people have commented and asked if everyone had the cutout or if they were missing something. I assume they had a V6 if we saw the opening then..

That "stuff MIGHT" get up there doesn't bother me. That plastic is only there for aerodynamic purposes, not protection. They expect that engine bay to get splashed from time to time. I don't hear Hemi people worrying about their oil filter being vulnerable to damage.

When we start seeing reports of engine damage as a result of junk coming through that hole, then I'll worry. Until then, methinks it's much ado about less than nothing.

maybe thats the answer...the full pan is a steel 'skid plate' and the plastic is just that. a piece of plastic.

That hole looks like ittakes some sort of cover / insert that is missing?

That is what i thought also, but as I initially stated, the V-6 owner who did not have the hole (right pic on first post) said he tried to push out/remove that piece and, I quote him here, "it seems to be one piece, not a cover."
Yes, it 'may' be much to do about nothing, and no, there are no Hemi guys screaming about engine damage to their oil filters because of a hole, but it just looks really odd and thought maybe this was an issue/oversight coming out of the factory unnecessarily?

It looks like the original design was for one pan with a cover you removed if you had the V8 but in the process of doing the final engineering they must have decided the cover wasn't needed and didn't add it. It may seem trivial but if that piece dost then $2 and the all the handling plus installation added up to another $3 then that $5 spread across 100000 vehicles (WK2's plus Durangos) means they save 1/2 MILLION dollars.

Plus I am sure it is a part that will easy fall off or get lost when you have your oil changed. Then customers will be complaining and dealerships will have to replace the part all the time.

I have the V6 and just checked, I do not have the hole in the cover, it appears to be one piece. There is no hole in the bottem. Built date was Oct

I checked mine today and I have the hole. Makes no sense having that on the V6. However, the hole came in handy while fishing the engine block heater cable through the lower front fascia. Made my job much easier.

I'm gonna see if I can buy a piece of black plastic and rivet it into place

On my 2010 WK there is wide open space much bigger than that hole where you can see right to the pavement, between the engine and the fan. I dont think you need to worry about dirt or grime causing much of an issue since the WK's had much more exposure and we never heard of it causing any issues, plus from the pics its not a very big opening.
