Illuminated Door sills only available for limited and up?

So I had my parts department order me the illuminated doors sills to my laredo X as I thought it would be a nice addition.

I have read on a few other threads here that people are very happy with the way they have come out.

I drop it off and come back 2 hours later to hear that "they should have caught it before we ordered" and that "they dont fit your model, only limited and higher".

I asked how is this possible and why cant they just order a limited molding to make it fit if thats the case.

Then I was told I doubt that it would fit.
They said that the center part should pop right our and the illuminated one should go right inside and plug right in to the assembly.

I asked him if he could just cut it out and wire it up and he said he would not.

Can someone please let me know if this is true or not that it will only fit the Limited or higher?

Thanks

The illuminated door sills are basically an aluminum sill insert with a backlit 'Jeep' that replaces the all-aluminum insert in the stock sill. I have an Overland so I do not know what the Laredo sill looks like. But here are the stages in my installation (note that the stainless steel 'Grand Cherokee' sill guards are a separate item; they just install by adhesive tape):

1 - stock Overland sill (aluminum insert in plastic)
2 - swapping out the stock insert with the illuminated one
3 - installed illuminated sill

So you DO have to start with a standard Overland or Limited type sill that has the aluminum insert. I do not know if this works with Laredo, OR why you cannot just order the stock Overland sill from Mopar and upgrade it with the illumination.

It definitely works, but you have to buy the Overland sill with aluminum plate in it. The only problem is that the available Overland sill colors don't match the Laredo interior colors. I choose the black sill and it looks sweet with the illumination. It doesn't hurt that I choose black Husky liners to tie the color in also. Pull the trigger, its well worth the extra cost of the Overland sill.

From all practical views, it appears the Laredo X with the all plastic sill will not work, since there is nothing to 'pop-off'? I was going to do this to mine also, but was deterred by this fact, so I guess a Limited+ sill swap out may be the only way for us to get lit door sills?

Looks like you could just cut the slots out of the Laredo plastic where you could insert the tabs of the lighted sills

YES! It sure looks like it? Seems the only difference is the tab slots for the insert? That's easy enough mod. with Dremel tool :D

Hey JLAG - there's HOPE!

The Amazon product cited by plynn7 are the Illuminated Door Sill Guards (Amazon left the word 'Illuminated' off their product name.

As for the stainless steel sill guards, they are Mopar Part #82212118.

Both are also sold at JustForJeeps.com
