Who has a rear DVD?

I ordered one and am wondering if it's worth the $1500. Any probs with it?

$1500? That's a landau roof and power steering!

I would've ordered it but they don't offer on Laredo. Probably for the best, gonna stick my ipad back there time being and put it on a gripdaddy extension to center between the seats. May add an Alpine system later for about $500.

So far the kids love it. I have yet to use a DVD disc. They just watch Satellite TV. It does block your view out the back window, which I don't like. I remember when I was a kid. Driving 20 minutes felt like an eternity!!! I don't mind distracting the little ones to keep them happy.

I have one and I enjoy it... well not me personally but when I have my nephew and/or little kids in the back it is a life saver. They are glued to the TV as you get 3 channels through satellite (Disney, Nick, and CartoonNetwork), plus the option to throw in a SpongeBob DVD, they would never want to leave. I have not experienced any issues at all, visually and sound wise comes in as expected (sometimes better than my Directv). I know when I have my own kids it will pay dividends from small trips to the store or on ventures across country. My wife was planning ahead and said I “have” to get the rear entertainment due to the growth in the family sometime in the furture. The only problem, but should be expected, is the obstruction of your rearview mirror when the monitor is down. Need to really rely on the side mirror, which takes some getting used to. But I do miss having the option of a dual pane sunroof, but will have to do with the traditional sun roof.

I have it but it's not really used. I wanted the pano roof but didn't want to order a overland from the factory and bought off the lot. In terms of picture quality its ok. For the same price, you could get two ipads and have better picture quality and more functionality and take them with you. This is the 4th video system I've had in my vehicles and for some reason my kids have not really taken to them. They watch their movies on portable devices which are less expensive. If I had the option....I would go with the ipads.

The system comes with two wireless headphones and a remote control. You may run into issues with trying to listen to low volume music up front and the viewers behind not wanting to use headphones. I haven't tried the headphones and don't know what their quality is or if they're even comfortable. I just know my little one fights with my wife because the headsets are not wanted and you know what happens when little ones don't get what they want. There's none of that nonsense when I drive it.

Everyone keeps recommending ipads, but how do you watch a dvd on your ipad? Aside from downloading an itunes movie or if a bluray came with a digital copy..

Not me. Hmmm $830 for only a 64GB ipad with at&t's 3G. Good luck with BD on that!

If you want BD then you could get http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-...8432894&sr=8-1 or http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-...8432894&sr=8-4 and strap them in. Or you could go custom and mount them in the headreast.

I got myself this little toy and have been happy with it.

My kids never complain about the headsets, and seem to be able to hear the TV with them on even when I'm listening to the radio.

Re: Who has a rear DVD?

i have the rear dvd, and as much as i'd love the pano roof, it would go unused given the myriad of sports gear that goes on the roof rack year round

pros: nice controls from the head unit and remote, content control of movies for kids, compact and tidy, three sources possible at same time - one for in cabin audio, second source for first headset, third source for third headset (or same as first headset for movie), nice video quality though not BR

cons: definitely overpriced, wireless headset audio quality is average at best, rear screen blocks rearview mirror sight lines

You can't actually watch a dvd on your ipad but you can download software for free using the below link and convert your dvd collection to put them in itunes and then sync them to your ipad. Quality is not BD but kids don't seem to mind. You just have to manage what movies on on your ipad. I think its cleaner and once that is done...you can sell you dvd's and get part of your purchase price back. I couldn't be happier.
