Fuel economy figures are astoundingly good!

"Fuel economy for the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine is rated at 10.3 L/100 km on the urban cycle and 7.2 L/100 km on the extra-urban cycle. For the combined cycle, the fuel economy is rated at 8.3 L/100 km. "

AND, two specs of engine;

"The 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine for the new-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee will be offered in European markets also as a low-output version, with 140 kW (190 hp DIN) of power at 4,000 rpm and 440 N•m (324 lb-ft) of torque across 1,600-2,800 rpm. The low-output version of the turbo diesel engine will be standard on Laredo models (optional on Limited). This will allow Grand Cherokee to meet a wider potential market in Europe."

I would love to have that diesel engine....if it's a clean diesel. Maybe one day here in Canada. I would trade immediately.

Yep :)

And the torque.... nice 22lb/ft (30Nm) more than the Hemi :)

It's going to be hard not to say yes to one.... if only it sounded like my current V8! :)

I would definitely trade in for one. Imagine more torque and 50% better mileage!

Well VM reputation for car engines just sucks!
With that diesel is just like trade the minor fuel cost with huge price paid at garage for continuous repair and maintenance.
Many VM engine have the top of engine cracked for stress.

And DONT trust gas mileage, I have V6 Mercedes into 2006 Grand and I cannot do better than 13 liters/100km means 0.19 mpg
That V6 is just like to make complicate the easy things (see how many components are there just to make scared for reliability…)

Problems I had on V6:
- Turbo (changed 3 (!) into 160000Km) cost around 3000 Euros each time
- Injectors (changed all 6 at 100.000Km) cost 1200 Euros
- Diesel candles (changed all 6 at 100.000Km) cost 600 Euros
- EGR (changed at 120.000Km) cost 550 Euros
- Catalyst (lucky I don’t have it in my car, others changed at 80.000km) the cost is more than 800 Euros
- Diesel pump (many ppl changed at around 100.000Km) the cost is more than 600 Euros
- Swirl DC motor (changed at 130.000Km) the cost is 600 Euros

So V6 Diesel is ok, but be sure about warranty and forget to use the car for many years without issues.

Some of that stuff would have had to be replaced on a turbo gas engine, as well.

Agree, this why I ordered the Hemi.
Power and torque as I need, but minor issues.

Why they don't do it in US is it some kind lobby protecting gasoline makers? I would buy diesel GC hands down. I tried turbo diesel X5, that is really great engine for truck!

Talk about some serious twist. While getting 28mpg, too.

I think it's the perception of the US market. US consumers generally haven't bought diesels. IMO, it's mostly because they're just not offered, or if they are, they're at an insane price difference. I think they're making a mistake by not offering this engine here; US consumers are waking up to diesel, and with that kind of mileage and power, it would be hard to ignore.
