A couple product questions
Hello, I have quite a few questions. I was wondering if anyone has had any good results with the new style of LED tail light from Ebay? I noticed the member "00wj" Hector had them and said he had experienced some problems. 1) Did you ever figure out what was wrong? 2) Do you have any images of the tail lights before you tinted them. 3) How was the illumination compared to stock? Were they very bright?

If those aren't very good are these a good alternative?

Has anyone installed this and had good results? How's the brightness? Any suggestions on a particular LED 3rd brake light?

Until recently I really didn't understand the whole differences between the generations of headlights for the WJ Projectors, I've seen quite a bit of pictures of members on here with them. I was wondering what is up with this particular one on Ebay. This model's price is usually much higher than most Gen III's. Are these a Gen III or better and how are they performance wise?

Compared to this. The next two look similar,

But the latter looks to be of better quality, not sure.

For a full interior LED install for the dome lights, pull handles, and rear cargo light, are load resisters required on a WJ?

Lastly, Has anyone on here run 3000k HID's with Yellow Lamin-X over the stock fogs from 1999-2003 and had good results? I'm looking for a nice bright yellow effect, any suggestions?

Thanks for any and all help, I'm new here and this site seems like a great community with a vast amount of knowledge.

Re: A couple product questions
Well, I can help with a few of the questions...
The LED 3rd brake light for one. I have it (smoked model) installed a few months ago. It's been flawless. It is a lot brighter than the old incandescent, but it's more for looks than anything. You could use an LED bulb in your existing housing if you want, but the one you have a pic of above is a nice unit.

The interior LED project (if I remember correctly) only required the use of one load resistor installed on the bulb in the rear cargo area. If you don't do this, you'll get a dim light on all the time while the vehicle is on. Not cool. Once I installed that one resistor, it went back to normal operation. Another "solution" is to leave one incandescent bulb in the mix.

Here's another taillight option...I installed LED bulbs in issues.

Here's a shot of the rear with the LED 3rd brake light installed:

Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking of leaving the door lights intact since I heard the install was kind of tricky when it came to the LED's making contact with the circuit. What bulb do most people leave in when doing that method? Lastly, Those tail lights go well with your Jeep, But I've never really been a fan of that style. Yeah, Looks good! I like how it matches the color of your Jeep. Are those the same model that I had posted above? Mine wouldn't really match well, My 2001 is the Steel Blue Pearl Coat that was discontinued in February of 2004

Yes...same 3rd brake light. At least they look identical. I got mine on e-bay from a vendor called Acekogyo. Came with a quart of house fried rice that was also very good :D

As for interior LED's, I think for the most part people tend to leave the cargo bulb stock if they don't want to deal with load resistors, but honestly it's really easy to install one in that rear fixture. The handle bulbs were a bit of a PITA if I remember...but it wasn't that bad. I think a little creative bending of the contacts and I've had no issues.

I was a little skeptical of the tailights as well, I had them on my previous XJ and liked them though so I bought them from a place I knew I could easily return them if I didn't like them. I may tint them...still undecided. What I like about them is that if a bulb goes, I can swap it easily. If an LED goes in one of the tails you posted photos of, you're really going to have to pull stuff apart and solder in a new one...and even then it may not match. Same issue with the 3rd brake light.

Re: A couple product questions
You make a valid point, But since they are LED's you would hope they would last long, But you never know about aftermarket parts lol. Would you say, that's probably the best looking LED 3rd brake light you could find? I've been looking for quite some time and that one is really the only one on Ebay that caught my eye. You wouldn't happen to have any snapshots at night when lit up do you?

Re: A couple product questions
No lit shots...but if you give me through the weekend, I'll get one for you and post it up here.

Yeah, this was the only option I could find too...other than the obvious option of installing a red LED bulb in the stock housing. There were a few options from the vendor on ebay (chrome housing, black housing, smoked lens, etc) but that was it.

Alright man that sounds cool, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, What Gen. Projector is that?

TJXJWJ, your Jeep looks good.

Thanks Knightrider...can't wait for the SRT reps to go on!

RMG...I don't think they are a "GEN" projector. I got those before I was even a member of this site. I had about $150 in gift certs for Summit Racing at the time so I got mine there:

Re: A couple product questions
Oh, I wish someone would make a stickied thread explaining the differences and how to identify the different generations of projectors for the WJ. Also, how much do the SRT reps cost as a set?

TJXJWJ 02-25-2011 08:32 AM

Re: A couple product questions
That's a good idea...almost like a catalog for projectors. I think it's becoming hard to find anything that ISN'T a gen-3, but I honestly don't know enough about them.

The polished SRT rep wheels ran me $1480 WITH new Hankook Ventus tires mounted, balanced, and delivered to my door insured. Center caps, and chrome valve stems included as well. For the wheels alone, you're looking at about 1/2 the cost...but you can't use them with out tires, right? I got my set up from Scott is the guy I dealt with. Can't wait for them to be piled up at my front door...expecting them next week.
