Re: spare tire

remove the cargo try in the rear of the jeep, turn the bolt with the lug wrench and it will lower the tire. info is in your owners manual too

Re: spare tire

There is a hole under the false floor in the back that you wrench it down.

I have all the tools minus the lug wrench, I guess the previous owner took it with them. Either way, if I don't have the lug wrench with the hole that attaches to the other bar for square bolt, how can I lower the spare?

Use a regular one that fits, happened to me since the previous owner took the one that came with the car, its not that difficult :)

regular what? lug wrench? it doesn't attached to the bar that lowers the spare. I need something that will actually lower the spare

If I am reading this correctly, you have the bar that attaches to the lowering mechanism, but you do not have the lug wrench that you would attach to the bar horizontally that you would use to turn it?

If you have a decent socket set, you should be able to either find a socket that you can attach straight to the lowering mechanism (probably with an extender) or one that will fit over the top of the bar.

Failing all that, a pair of vicegrips clipped to the top of the bar should give you enough torque to raise and lower the tire.

All else fails you can take it to a mechanic...but be prepared to be laughed at extensively...

dr.lee.baugh

you are correct.
My socket set sucks, the one i could buy was $24...the lug wrench i was going to buy was $16.
Ordering the actual lug wrench from the dealers was cheaper.

I don't have a pair of visegrips, maybe a neighbor does, I'll try that tonight.

Yeah, the mechanic was an option, i was prepared, but what would I do if I blew out a tire getting to the mechanic? Thank you for your suggestions.

save yourself alot of hassle and money over the long run and go to sears or lowes and buy a mechanics tool set. they are very cheap and come with alot of tools for the money. both kobalt and craftsman come with lifetime warranties so they are great buys.
